Period 5 Unit 2: Bb

Lesson 1

I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will able to:

- learn and write the letter Bb /bi:/ and its sound /b/

- learn three Bb words

- be interested in learning English

II.Vocabulary: Ball, Bed, Bee.

III Sight words: Look, a.

IV Methods: Teacher-whole class, groups, individuals.

V Teaching aids: CD, Phonics cards,

VI Organization:

VII Procedures

* Warm up(5’): Playing game “Slap the board”

- T introduces the rules of this game

- T writes the words: Ant, Apple, Alligator, Acrobat on the

board

- T divides whole class into 2 teams of 5 Ss

- T says that objects in Vietnamese for Ss slap The person

who slap the right word first will get one point for his/her

team

- Do like this procedure

- T checks points of each team to find the winner

- Whole class congratulates

* Presentation and Practice(15’):

1 Listen, point and repeat Colour (Track 8):

- Introduction of letter B, its sound and how to pronounce

the words beginning with Bb

- Use a card with letter Bb (or write on the board the letter

Bb) to introduce to the Ss the new lesson

1 Listen, point and repeat Colour

- Instruct Ss how to pronounce the letter name and the letter

sound by saying: “This is the letter Bb /bi:/ The letter B

says /b /.”

- Repeat several times and check Ss’ pronunciation (letter

Bb /bi:/ and its sound /b/)

- Use the phonics cards with ball, bed and bee, read the

words out loud and ask Ss to repeat

- Use gestures (hand actions) to help Ss to understand the

meanings of the three words

- Check Ss’ understanding: T says the words, all Ss do

actions and vice versa

- Call some Ss to say the words out loud and correct their

mistakes (if any)

=> Activity: Memory Master

- Have Ss sit in a circle T chooses on student to be the

“Memory master”

- T arranges the phonics cards of the ball, bed, and bee face

up in the middle of the circle

- Then, have each student chooses a phonic card and says

the word, without actually touching the phonics card

- After everyone has said their words, the “memory master”

must hand the correct phonics card to each student

* Production(5’): Writing in the air.

Show the letter Bb again, have Ss write the “Bb” in the air

with their fingers

Lesson 1

VII Procedures

* Warm up(5’): Jumbled letters

-Ask Ss to close the book and run through the letters

- Divide class into 2 teams

- Let Ss to go to the bb and rewrite the meaningful letters

- Check and correct mistakes

* Presentation and Practice:

1 Listen and point Match (Track 9):

- Have Ss look at the books and listen to the words: Look,

a, ball, bed, bee

- T points to the ball and says “Look! A ball!” Have Ss

repeat many times

- T does like that with the bed and bee

- T plays the CD Have Ss listen and point to the ball, bed,

and bee

- T says “a ball” and ask Ss to point to the corresponding

item in the picture T does like that with the bed and bee

- Ask Ss to look at the missing puzzle pieces and match

them to the pictures

- Go around the classroom, asking Ss to name the items

they are matching

Eg: T points to the first puzzle piece and says: “Look!”

Ss say: “A bed”

=> Activity: Run and touch

- T divides the class into two teams, A and B

- T put up the phonics card of the ball, bee and bed on the

board

- T says one of the words Two Ss, one from each team,

call out the word as they race to touch its corresponding

phonics card

- The first student to touch the phonics card wins a point

for his/her team

3 Chant and show! (Track 10)

- Put up the lyrics of the chant on the board

- Without music, use the phonics cards and step Ss to sing

the chant with “Ball” Do the same with “Bed” and “Bee”

- Without music, the whole class sings the whole chant

- Give feedback

* Production: Writing in the air.

Show the letter Bb again, have Ss write the “Bb” in the air

with their fingers

3 Chant and show
