Insert Page Elements
The Pages group on the INSERT tab contains three buttons for inserting and then formatting or modifying
elements in a document
Word assumes that you are using standard-sized paper, which is 8.5 inches wide and 11 inches long
With default top and bottom margins of 1 inch, a Word document contains approximately 9 inches of text on
a page
At approximately the 10-inch mark, Word automatically inserts a page break

To insert a page break:
1. Click the INSERT tab
2. Click the Page Break button in the
Pages group

A page break that is automatically inserted by Word is considered a soft page break.
A page break that you insert is considered a hard page break.
If you add or delete text from a document with a hard page break, check the break to determine whether it is
still in a desirable location
To delete a hard page break, position the insertion point at the beginning of the page break and then press the
Delete key

To insert a blank page:
1. Click the INSERT tab
2. Click the Blank Page button in the Pages group

To insert a cover page:

To remove a header or footer:

3. Click the Remove Header or Remove Footer option at the drop-down list.

Predesigned headers and footers contain elements such as page numbers and the document title
You can change the formatting of an element by clicking it and then applying the desired formatting
You can also select and then delete an element
In Print Layout view, you can display the header or footer pane for editing by double-clicking a header or
footer

With the Find feature in Word, you can search in a document for specific characters or types of formatting.

1. Click the HOME tab

3. Type the search text in the Find what text
box
4. Press the tab key
5. Type the replacement text in the Replace
with text box.

Click the Find Next button in the Find and Replace dialog box to tell Word to find the next occurrence of the
text
Click the Replace button to replace the text and find the next occurrence.
If you know that you want all occurrences of the text in the Find what text box replaced with the text in the
Replace with text box, click the Replace All button This replaces every occurrence from the location of the
insertion point to the beginning or end of the document (depending on the search direction)

Match case Exactly match the case of the search text For example, if you search for Book and select the
Match case option, Word will stop at Book but not book or BOOK.
Find whole words only Find a whole word, not a part of a word For example, if you search for her and do not select
Find whole words only, Word will stop at there, here, hers, etc.
Use wildcards Search for wildcards, special characters, or special search operators.
Sounds like Match words that sound alike but are spelled differently, such as know and no.
Find all word forms Find all forms of the word entered in the Find what text box For example, if you enter hold,
Word will stop at held and holding.

Match prefix
Find only those words that begin with the letters in the Find what text box For example, if you enter per, Word will stop at words such as perform and perfect but skip words such as super and hyperlink.
Match suffix
Find only those words that end with the letters in the Find what text box For example, if you enter ly, Word will stop at words such as accurately and quietly but skip over words such
catalyst and lyre.
Ignore punctuation characters Ignore punctuation within characters For example, if you enter US in the Find what text box,
Word will stop at U.S.
Ignore white-space characters Ignore spaces between letters For example, if you enter F B I in the Find what text box, Word
will stop at FBI.

1. Hover the mouse at the left margin,
between the left and right margin, or
at the right margin

If the horizontal lines do not display next to the mouse pointer when you double-click the mouse button, a left
tab is set at the position of the insertion point
If you want to change the alignment and not set a tab, make sure the horizontal lines display near the mouse
pointer before double-clicking the mouse

To vertically align text:
1. Click the PAGE LAYOUT tab
2. Click the Page Setup group dialog box launcher
3. Click the Layout tab
4. Click the down-pointing arrow at the right of the
Vertical alignment option.

Vertically Align Text - continued
The Vertical alignment option box in the Page Setup dialog box contains four choices: Top, Center, Justified,
and Bottom.
The default setting is Top, which aligns text at the top of the page.
Choose Center if you want text centered vertically on the page.
The Justified option aligns text between the top and the bottom margins.
Choose the Bottom option to align text in the document vertically along the bottom of the page.

The Center option positions text in the middle of the page vertically, while the Justified option adds space
between paragraphs of text (not within) to fill the page from the top to bottom margins
If you center or justify text, it does not display as centered or justified on the screen in Draft view, but it does
display centered or justified in Print Layout view
