V Procedure
1 Warm up:
Do the chant from page 45 to energize the class and revise the sounds that v, w, x,
y, and z make
Use all the phonics cards for children to practice saying the letters of the alphabet Hold up the cards in a random order, showing only the pictures Say the name of the animal, person or object on the front of the card Children call out the name of
the letter it begins with, e.g Nurse? (n).
2 Development:
Recording 77: Children listen, point and sing the alphabet song Count off all
the children in the class as a letter of the alphabet and sing the song again The children stand up when they hear their letter in the song
Exercise 2: Children write the missing letters Check by singing the alphabet
song slowly together as children follow in their book

Extension activity: Put students in groups of four and give them some letters of the alphabet Make sure that the letters of the alphabet are divided up among all the groups in the class Give each group a large piece of card and tell the children
to draw the letters of the alphabet you have given them and pictures to represent each letter When they have finished, put the posters on the wall in the correct order to form the whole alphabet Ask children to come out the front and read the alphabet from beginning to end and point to different pictures and ask the class to tell you the word
