Lesson 3

I Objectives:

1 Knowledge: After the lesson, Ss will be able to review the sound of the letter O, four O words and recognize the corresponding pictures, write the letter O

2 Skills: listening, speaking, writing

3 Attitude: Ss like studying English

- S: Le Ngoc Linh and Hoang Ngoc Tuan know the letter O

II Teaching aids:

T: Pictures, books, flash card

SS: Ss’ book, activity book

III Method: MAT, TPA.

IV.Procedure:

1 Organization: (1’)

-Greeting

- Check absent students

2 Warm up (5’)

Play the song from Lesson 2 (Track 06), ask students to sing along and do

corresponding actions

I.Presentation & Practice

*Activity 1: Thumbs Up or Down (5 mins)

- T;Ask the students to close their books.

- T:Hold up the phonics cards one at a time.

- T:Ask the students to verify the word the teacher

says by putting their thumbs up or down

*Activity 2 (7’)

- T;Ask Ss to take out their colour pencils/ crayons.

- T:Name some colours and ask the students to

repeat

- Ss: name the picture

- T:Use the structure: “I like…” and ask the students

hold up the colour pencils/ crayons they like

- T:Show the picture in the book to the whole class.

- T:Point to the orange and say: an orange.

- T:Have the students say the word and colour it.

6 Say and colour the o word

- Ss: colour the pictures

- T:Give the students 2 minutes to circle the pictures

that have Oo in them

- Ss circle the pictures

- T:Go around the classroom asking the students to

say the o words they are colouring

*Activity 3 (8’) (Track 13)

- T:Show the Ss the omelette phonics card Point to it

and say: // - omelette Ask them to repeat.

- Ss: read in chorus

- T:Mime cracking and beating eggs and say: // -

omelette Encourage the Ss to do the same

- T:Point to the pictures, Ss do corresponding actions

and say the words

- Ss: so the action

*:Activity 4: (10’) Craftwork

- T;Ask Ss to take out their notebook then ask them

to choose one word the draw the letter and the

picture in their notebooks

- Ss: write on their notebook

- T:Tell them to colour the letter and the picture.

- Ss :colour the letter and picture

- The Ss who finish will show their picture to the

class

- T: comment

7 Listen, point and repeat Colour the pictures of the words that start with the o sound Say the o words

- Call Ss to retell what they’ve learn

- T:Write on the board the big O and small o

- T:Point to the letter O and say out loud

- Ss: repeat its sound chorally, then individually

- T:Have the students say the sound individually,

correct the pronunciation if necessary

Activity (5’) How to write letter O Writing &

Speaking

- T;Demonstrate how to write the big O by stroke

- Ss: look at the board

- T:Draw an example of letter O using dashed lines

- T:Use a different colored chalk to model tracing

the letter O

- T:Have some students practice tracing letter O on

the board

- Ss: practice in the air

- T:Have students trace letter O in the books

- Ss: say /o/ after each finished letter

- *S; listen and read letter O

II.Writing & Reading

Activity Book p 4 Tracing & Matching (5’)

- T:Put the phonics card (olive, nut) on the board

- T:Copy the box from question 1 and 2 in the book

letter N, n using dashed lines

- T:Ask the students which one goes with letter O.

- T:Have the students do the same procedure in

their book

- Ss: work individually.

- T:Go around and give help as needed

III Writing & Reading(p.5- Activity book) (6’)

- T:Copy the box from the book to the board

- T:Tell Ss that you are going to write the letter Oo

into the box

- Ss: work individually.

- T:Demonstrate the writing

- T:Ask Ss to write the letter Oo in the box in their

book and tick the correct picture that corresponds

to the letter

Reading (Page 5 – Activity Book) ) (8 ’ )

- T:Ask the students to take out their colour

pencils/ crayons

- T:Name some colours and ask the students to

repeat

- Ss : name and repeat

- T:Use the structure: “I like…” and ask Ss hold up

the colour pencils/ crayons they like

- Ss: colour

- T:Show the picture in the book to the whole class.

-T:Point to the octopus and say: an octopus
