I Objective :

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

Read and say the three Uuwordscorrectly

Recognize and say an extra Uu word correctly

1 Language focus:

Vocabulary:hat, hen, hippo

Sight word: it, is, in, an, and, can, you, see

2 Skill: listening, speaking ,reading , writing

3.Attitude: to teach ps like animal……

II Teaching aids:

1 Teacher: - Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant.

2 Student: - Student’s book, Activity book

2 Warm up (5’)

Greet students

Play the song from Unit 2, ask students to sing along and do corresponding actions

Or

Activity: Act It Out

Choose a student to come to the front of the classroom

Show him/her a phonics card or whisper a word and ask the student to act it out The remaining students try to guess the correct answer

The first student to have the correct answer comes to the front of the class and the activity continues

and say horse

7 Listen Point and repeat (Track 52) 7’

Show the students the horse phonics card

Point to it and say: /h/ - horse Ask them to

repeat

Mime trying to ride a horse and say: /h/ -

horse Encourage the students to do the same

Point to the pictures, the students do

corresponding actions and say the words

Divide the class intogroups of two

The first student point to the pictures and the

other student say the word then change the

roles

Colour the pictures of the words that start

the H sound

Point to the pictures and have the students

name them

7 Listen Point and repeat

Set the time for students to colour the pictures

of the words that start with h sound

Go around the class, provide necessary help

Activity: Craftwork 5’

Ask the students to take out their notebooks

Ask them to choose one word the draw the

letter and the picture in their notebooks

Tell them to colour the letter and the picture

The three first students who finish will show

their picture to the class

OR

Activity: Hunt The Cards Game 5’

Divide the class into two teams 1 and 2

Hide the phonics cards around the classroom

Write the following for each team:

1: hat, hippo

2: hen, horse

The students in each team have to ‘hunt’ for

the phonics cards of their team

Play the song (Track 51) from lesson 2

The first team to find all its words before the

end of the song is the winner

4.Consolidation:1’

- T asks whole class to sing the song at home

Write on the board the big H and small h

Point to the letter H and say out loud “This is

the letter H /eɪtʃ/ and the letter H says /h/

Point to the letter H and say out loud “This is

the letter H /eɪtʃ/ The letter Hsays /h/”

Have the class repeat its sound chorally, then

individually

Trace and say (Page 18– Activity Book)

Have the students say the sound individually,

correct the pronunciation if necessary

Activity: How to write letter H 6’

Writing& Speaking

Demonstrate how to write the big H by strokes

Draw an example of letter H using dashed

lines

Use a different colored chalk to model tracing

the letter H

Have some students practice tracing letter H

on the board

Have students trace letter H in the books

Students say /eɪtʃ/ after each finished letter

Go around to give help if necessary

Repeat the same procedure with the lower

letter h

Review the previous letters

Show the phonics cards of elephant, fox and

garden, the students look and read the words

Ask the students to point out the first letter

corresponding with each word (e, f, g)

Remind students how to write these letters

Trace and match

Ask the students totrace the letter in their book

Ask student to match the big and small letter

with the correct picture

Which are the right hats for the hens?

Colour(Page 19– Activity Book) 7’

Activity 1: Recognize the big and small

letter

The students look at the pictures on the

activity book (page 18), read the small letter

in each question

Choose the hat which has appropriate big

letter with the small one

Read the big sound after choosing the hat

Activity 2:Colouring 3’

The students choose the crayon they like to

colour the hats which they chose before

2.Trace and match (page 18 – Activity Book)

Move around the class, ask individuals to read

the sound they are colouring

3.Circle the pictures of the words that start

with the same sound (page 19– Activity

book) 5’

Model:

Call 1 volunteer student Point to the first

picture in question 1, ask the student to look at

the picture and read aloud, find the first sound

of the word

Point to the next pictures in question 1, the

student read gradually each picture and the

first sound of each

Choose the picture of the words that start with

the same sound with the first picture

Practice: (3 minutes)

Ask the students do the same procedure as the

model in the other questions

Set the time for the students to practice (2

minutes)

Give feedback

3.Circle the pictures of the words that start with the same sound (page 19– Activity book)

Draw an imaginary letter H in the air

Signal the students to look your mouth

Say “This is the letter …… ” (Use mouth to mime the sound /eɪtʃ/ and students give the answer)

Say “ The letter H says …….” (Use mouth to mime the sound /h/ and students give the answer)
