Unit 4 : Our past Lesson 1: Listen and read + Language focus 1

I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

• To help students read and understand the dialogue between Nga and her grandma

• To help them know something about life many years ago

1.Knowledge:

Vocabulary: great, grandma, light

Grammar: present simple tense; used to.

Skills: Ask - answer./Individually Pair work./Team work

3 Attitude:

+ Students must have good attitude and to study seriously.

+ To be fond of English study subject

II- PREPARATIONS

+Teacher :Ts’ & Ss’ books./Pictures /Posters./Tape and cassette./Word cards

+Students: Books, Pens ,Notebooks

IV Procedure:

Teacher’s &students’ activities Board display

I Warm up (5 minutes)-GW

- SS:Look at the extra board and read the verbs

in the table

- SS:Play the game of “one by one”: two teams

of five Write the verbs in the past tense form

-T: Ask Ss to look at the extra board of the

table of verbs

-T: Check the answers

-T: Call some Ss to read the verbs in the table

1 Presentation (10 minutes)

-T:Read & explain new words

-T: Guide the Ss to read the new words

-T:Check by giving the game of “Rub out and

remember”

-T: Repeat in chorus

I New words

+ great- grandma (n) : cụ bà + modern (a): hiện đại + light (v): châm đèn + folktale (n): Truyện cổ tích + equipment: thiết bị, đồ dùng

+ traditional: cổ truyền

-T: Ask SS to look at the picture and guess

who they are in the picture

- Look at the picture and give their ideas about the

people in the picture.

between Nga and her grandmother Listen

and say what they are talking about.

3 Practice (18 minutes)

- Ask Ss to listen to the tape and scan

- Ask Ss to practice the dialogue in pairs

- Call some pairs to practice loudly

- Correct the mistakes if necessary

- Please read the questions about the dialogue

- Please read the questions about the dialogue

- Work in pairs to find out the answers 3.Ask and answer about the questions.a) Where did Nga’s grand- mother use to live?

b) Why didn’t she go to school?

c) What did Nga’s grand mother use to do? d) What did Nga’s great-grandmother and great-grand father do after dinner?

e) What did Nga ask her grand mother to do at the end of the conversation?

- Give their answers.

a) She used to live on a farm

b) Because she had to stay at home and help her mother looked after her younger brothers and sisters

c) She used to cook the meals, clean the house and wash the clothes

d) Her great – grand mother used to light the lamp and her grand father used to tell the stories

e) She asked her grand mother to tell her the tale “The Lost Shoe”

- In our life some times ew speak about the

fact, sometimes we say our opinions about

something

Ex: The weather is hot today (it is fact)

The weather is nice today (it is opinion)

- Listen to the teacher and make some

sentences

Lan is the tallest student in the class.(fact) Mai is as beautiful as Nga.(opinion)

- In this exercise some are fact and some are

opinion You are going to read and decide

III.WRAPPING-UP(8’)

- In this lesson we learn how to use the form

of “ used to”

Ex: I used to live on a farm when I was a

young girl

She used to cook the meals, clean the

house and wash the clothes

Dad used to tell us stories

- Ask Ss to remark about the form of “used

to”

- Cấu trúc “used to + V” để nói thói quen

làm việc gì trong quá khứ mà hiện tại không

còn.

- Listen to the teacher

- Read the model sentences

- Give the prompt and ask Ss to make

sentences
