Period 79: Part A : SPORTS (A1,2)

I AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

* Language content: To help the students describe sporting activities

To introduce some new words relating to sport and some adjectives

-To enable the sts to name top ten of popular sports for teenagers in America

- By the end of the lesson, the sts can say about the the popular sports for teenagers in Vietnam

* Language function: To help the students say the sports they like and they play in

their free time

* Educational aim: To educate the students to aware of the importance of the

sports in our life

1 Language :

+ Vocabulary: skateboarding, roller-skating, Roller-blading, choice, even though, surprising, surprisingly, football(American football), baseball.

+ Structure: Revision: The past simple tense.

2 Skills: Integrated skills

3 Educational factor:

- To educate the sts to have regular medical check –up

1 Method: Communicative approach.

2 Techniques: Repetition, Explanation, Games, Question-Answer, Discussion

3 Material needed: Textbook, pictures, Recorder

4 Students’ preparation: names of sports

5 Previous exercise: correct the test

III PROCEDURE IN CLASS :

1 Stabilization: (2ms)

- Makes greetings and checks the sts’ attendance: Who’s absent? Why?Does she/he have sick note?

- Makes a short talk with the sts about the weather & health

2 Checking up the previous knowledge:(5ms )

1 Hoa and Nga didn’t go to school and Nam …

2.I’m not a teacher and … he.

3.My mother likes chocolates and … I

4 He can speak Chinese I …

-Says and introduces the

situation : “Today, we will study some sports which sts in Vietnam and in the USA like playing in their free time”

2.Pre-pratice

-Plays the cassette once

a Writes and teaches the words

+ surprising (a) (explain)+ surprisingly (adv) :+ skateboarding: (picture)+ rollerblading:

+ roller- skating + choice (n): (translation)

b Checks the meanings

of the words “ Using

the pictures and asks them

- Reminds of the simple past tense:

Ex: Baseball was the most

popular choice even though it is not one of the world’s most popular game

-Asks the sts to tell the differences between the most popular sports for students in Vietnam and

in the USA

- Asks the sts to rename the most popular sports in America

- Asks the sts to:

+learn the names of sports by heart

+ write about 5 sentences

to tell what sport you like best and say why

Ex: I like football most because it is very interesting

+ Prepare: A3,4:Adverbs

5 Previous exercise : read the dialogue again and answer the questions

III.PROCEDURE IN CLASS :

1 Stabilization: 2ms

a) Warm up: Makes greetings &Makes a short talk with the sts about the weather

b) Checking absence:Who’s absent today? What is wrong? Does he/ she have sick note?

2 Checking up the previous knowledge : 5ms Vocabulary Checking: 2 students from 2

teams to write sports into 3ms and then answer the questions: Do you like… ?/ Is baseball your favorite sport? If not what is your first choice?

- To help the sts to use the adverbs of manners

a) Vocabulary : awareness, kid, lifeguard, pool edge, risk , flag, obey, accident

b) Structure: Adverbs of manners

3 Educational factor: To guide the sts what to do in the swimming pool.
