Unit 12: A VACATION ABROAD

Lesson 2: speak

I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

• Revise some words relating to weather forecast.

• Talk about weather reports.

• Be aware of the importance of weather forecast in daily life.

Vocabulary: weather forecast, low/high temperature, minus degree, zero degree, degree

centigrade

V Procedure:

1 Warm up (7 minutes)

- Revises some words relating to weather

- Puts the gap-fill table on the board and has the

students copy in their notebooks

- Tells the students they are going to listen to the

weather forecast about the city in the table and

have to fill in the gaps with the information they

hear

- Listen and answer:

- Observe the table

- Listen to the teacher’s guideline

2 Pre listening (8 minutes)

- Ask Ss to look at the picture and answer the

question: What program is it about?

- Ask Ss to read the table of the places on the

3 While listening (17 minutes)

And here is today’s weather forecast for the

international traveler

1 Let’s start with Sydney It will be a dry day

in Sydney today, and windy For the

temperature, the low will be twenty and the

high will be twenty – six degrees

2 Tokyo will be dry and windy, with a low of

fifteen and a high of twenty – two

3 London is going to have a humid day It will

be very cold with a low if minus three and a

high of seven

4 Bangkok will be warm and dry, with a low of

twenty – four degrees centigrade and a high

of thirty – two

5 New York is going to have a windy day It

will be cloudy with a low of eight and a high

of fifteen

6 In Paris it will be cool and dry today The

low will be ten degrees and the high will be

sixteen

- Listen for the first time to do the exercise individually

- Listen to the tape twice more and check the answers

- Give their answers to complete the table

4 Post listening (10 minutes)

- Give the game of “Role play”: Have the

weather and temperature suing the information

in the table

How about the temperature?

The low will be 20 and the high 26 degrees

• Be aware of the beauty of places of interest in the USA

going to read some postcards from Mrs Quyen

to her children

2 Pre reading (10 minutes)

- Pre – teach new words following steps and

principles of teaching words
