UNIT 14: WHAT DOES HE LOOK LIKE?

LESSON 3 (1-3)

A AIMS

- Ss will be able to master how to pronoun the sounds /th/; practice the sounds

in words and sentences

- Ss will be able to chant together

- Develop Ss listening, speaking and chanting skills

* Language focus:

- Vocabulary: revision

B TEACHING AIDS

CD, pictures, loudspeaker, laptop

C PROCEDURE

I WARM - UP

Writing

- Have sts come to the board and write the words that have letters /th/

II NEW LESSON

1 Listen and repeat

- Have pupils look at the poster with the content of part 1 (sts’ book – Page 28)

- Tell them they are going to learn how to pronoun the sounds with the

/th/ and with 2 different ways and words.

- Produce the sounds with /th/ in this, that, and in thin, thick a few times.

Ask pupils to say what they think about when they hear the sounds

- Play the recording again for the whole class to repeat each line in the speech bubbles to reinforce their pronunciation

- Give the notes how to pronoun /th/ in 2 ways and different words

2 Listen and tick Then write and say aloud

- Have pupils look and read the uncompleted sentences given.

- Tell the pupils that they are going to listen to 4 sentences and tick the words they hear to fill in the gaps

- Play the recording twice for pupils listen and repeat

- Compare the answers with the partner

- Play the recording again pupils check their answers T gives the answer:

Answer: 1- a 2- b 3- a 4- b

- Have pupils practice reading the whole sentences

3 Let’s chant: This is my family

- Put the piece of paper with the chant from Page 28 written on it on the board

- Tell pupils that they are going to chant

- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen as they read Clap the syllables

- Play the recording again for pupils to repeat each line of the chant and clap the syllables

- Call on some pupils to perform the chant at the front of the class The rest of the class observe and give comments if possible

- Have pupils open their books at Page 29

- Elicit the content of reading task

- Tell pupils that they are going to read Marie’s letter to get the information

- Pupils read the letter individually

- Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary

- Ask sts get information from the letter to write the answers for the questions

- Sts do the task in pairs

- Get sts’ answer

• Whole class: Have pupils turn their books to Page 30

- Ask pupils about the characters in the pictures: Mai and Tom

- Elicit information from the pictures

- Explain the meaning of the language practised

- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen, and point to the appropriate line in their books

- Play the recording again for pupils to repeat the lines in the speech bubbles

- Repeat the steps a few times

- Some Ss role play and the others comment

- Ask Ss to role play
