STORY TIME(P1)

I Objective :

To consolidate the sound of the letters Aa, Bb, Cc and Dd and the

corresponding words

Learn and practice reading skills

1 Language focus:

Vocabulary: consolidation

2 Skill: listening, speaking ,reading , writing

3.Attitude: to teach ps

II Teaching aids:

1 Teacher: - Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the

chant

2 Student: - Student’s book, Activity book

III Method:

- TPA, PPP

IV.Procedures:

1 Organization:

- Greeting

- Check student attendence

2 Warm up (5’)

Arrange some chairs, back to back, in the middle of the room

Choose phonics cards and place them on the chairs

Play a song (use a song from the previous units)

When the music stops the students pick up a phonics card and, one at time, tell Teacher the name of the item pictured on their phonics card

The student who gives an incorrect answer is out of the activity

Play the activity as many times as necessary

3 New lesson 30’

1.Listen Read along 10’

Tell the students that it’s story time 1.Listen Read along

Ask them if they like reading stories and what

their favourite story (or character) is

Prepare phonics cards of these words: ant, bed,

dog, cat, clock, dragon, drum

Ask the students to read out the words

Invite students to guess what they think the

story is about (do not dismiss any ideas)

Ask the students to open their books

Ask them questions about what they can see in

the pictures

e.g Teacher: (pointing to the dog in picture

1) Look! What’s this?

Class: (It’s a) dog!

Teacher: (pointing to the bed in picture

1) Yes! The dog is on the ….

Class: bed! etc

Play the CD and ask the students to listen and

follow the story in their books, pointing to the

pictures of the key words

Play the CD again pausing for the students to

repeat

Ask individual students to read the story aloud

Extension (optional)

Ask the students to read the story again

Then ask them to look at the pictures for a few

minutes and close their books

Say a few sentences (some correct and some

incorrect) and ask the students to say yes or no

e.g Teacher: The dog is on the bed.

Student 1: Yes!

Teacher: The dragon is on the clock.

2.Which animals are in the story? Colour

Point to the animals and ask students to name

them

Ask the students to say which animals appear

in the story

Ask them to colour those animals

Activity 1: Act Out

Read the sentences in the story, pause at the

key words

Invite the students to mime them (the dog, the

bed, the ant, the cat, the clock, the dragon, the

drum.

Have the students come to the front of the

classroom and act out the story

Encourage them to have fun as they perform

Activity: Memory Game

Put up some phonics cards on the board

Line up students into 2 teams of 6

Call a student from each team to stand 1m from the board

Read words out loud, one at time (e.g ant), the students must run to tap the card of that word

The student who taps the correct card first will get 1 point for his/her team The team with the most points wins the activity

3 New lesson 30’

1.Match and colour Say the letter and

Explain the activity

Ask the students to say the letters

The students match the upper case letters to

the lower case ones

Say the letter and the sound

Ask individual students to repeat the letter

and the sound

Go around and provide any necessary help

Ask them to tick the correct letter that

corresponds to each picture

win the activity
