I Objective :

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

Read and say the three Ii wordscorrectly

Recognize and say a new Ii word correctly

1 Language focus:

Vocabulary: ink, igloo, iguana, insect

Sight word: in, my, with, here, is

2 Skill: listening, speaking ,reading , writing

3.Attitude: to teach ps ink, igloo, iguana

II Teaching aids:

1 Teacher: - Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the

chant

2 Student: i-Learn My Phonics Grade 1, Pupil’s book – p.45

III Method:

- TPA, PPP

- Greeting

- Check student attendence

2 Warm up (5’)

Greet students

Play the song from Unit 2, ask students to sing along and do corresponding

actions

Or Ask the students to open their notebooks In two minutes, the students

write as many Ii's as they can The winner is the student who has written the

most

Ask students to read the objects

Ask students to choose the object with the

correspondent sound

Have the students colour the objects that they

choose with their favourite crayon

Give the students 2 minutes to colour in the

objects Go around the classroom providing

any necessary help

Activity: Correct the teacher 5’

Hold up the phonics cards, one at a time and

ask individual students to correct the

statement

e.g Teacher: (holding the iguana phonics

card) Here is my hippo

Student 1: No, here is my iguana

Continue with the rest of the phonics cards

and the other students

7 Listen Point and repeat (Track 07) 7’

Show the students the insect phonics card

Point to it and say: /ɪ/ - insect Ask them to

repeat

Mime an insect crawling up the arm and say /ɪ

- insect Encourage the students to do the same

Point to the pictures, the students do

corresponding actions and say the words

Divide the class intogroups of two

The first student point to the pictures and the

other student say the word then change the

roles

Colour

Point to the pictures and have students name

them

Allow the students some time to colour in the

pictures of the words that start with the I

sound

Go around the classroom providing any

necessary help

Activity: Craftwork 10’

Ask the students to take out their notebooks

Ask them to choose one word the draw the

letter and the picture in their notebooks.

Tell them to colour the letter and the picture

The three first students who finish will show

their picture to the class

OR

Activity: Stand and sit 7’

Say the different words from the previous

lessons

Tell the students to stand up whenever they

hear the words with /ɪ/ sound and to sit down

when they hear a different sound

Read slowly and gradually increase the speed

I Objective :

Review the sound of the letter Ii, three Ii words and recognize the

corresponding pictures

Write the letter Ii

Write on the board the big I and small i

Point to the letter I and say out loud “This is

the letter I /a/ The letter says // ”

Point to the letter i and say out loud “This is

the letter i /a/ The letter says //”

Have the class repeat its sound chorally, then

individually

Have the students say the sound individually,

correct the pronunciation if necessary

Activity: How to write letter A 6’

Writing& Speaking

Demonstrate how to write thebig I by stroke

Draw an example of letter I using dashed lines

Use a different colored chalk to model tracing

the letter I

Have some students practice tracing letter I on

the board

Have students trace letter I and i in the books

Students say /a/ after each finished letter

Go around to give help if necessary

Repeat the same procedure with the lower

letter i

Reading and tracing

Ask students to read the sounds and the

objects in each question in the book

Ask students to trace the big and small letters

in the book

Matching

Students read the objects again and decide

what sound is at the beginning of the words in

the pictures

Ask students to match the sounds with the

corresponding words of the picturesby using a

pencil and a ruler to draw a line

Review the way to write the letter Ii by asking

students to draw into the space following the

teacher first

Ask students to write the letter Ii into their

activity book page 23

Call some individuals to read aloud the letter Ii

/a/ and the sound //

Give feedback

Activity 2: Colouring 6’

Ask student to name 6 objects in their activity

book and the beginning sounds

Decide which objects have the sound //

Ask students to choose their favourite crayons

to colour these objects

Move around and ask students to read the

object they are colouring

Give feedback

Stress on Ink , in and Igloo

Remind students by asking question: What is

ink? and what is igloo?

Drawing and colouring

Have the students draw and colour 2 objects:

igloo, ink inside the igloo

Go around providing any necessary help

4.Consolidation:1’

Draw an imaginary letter I in the air

Signal the students to look at teacher’s mouth

Say “This is the letter …… ” (Use mouth to mime the sound /a/ and students give the answer)

Say “ The letter I says …….” (Use mouth to mime the sound // and students give the answer)
