WEEK 1 – Period 1

UNIT 1: LESSON 1 : Aa (P1) I.Objective :

- By the end of the lesson , students will be able to recognize and pronounce the letter Aa and its sound correctly

- Understand, recognize and say the three Aa words

- Write the letter Aa

- Skill: listening, speaking ,reading , writing

II Language focus:

Vocabulary: ant ,apple,alligator

Sight words: a,an

III Resources:

- Student’s book, CD, phonics cards ,paper including the lyrics of the chant

IV.Organization:

1A Tuesday, September 6th 2016

1B Wednesday, September 7th 2016

V Procedures:

A Warm up: 5’

Greet the pupils : hello, I’m …

Whole class respond by saying hello

B Presentation:15’

1 Listen , point and repeat Colour.

-Introduction of letter A , Its sound and how to

pronounce the words beginning with Aa

- Use a card with letter Aa or write on the board

the letter Aa to introduce to the students the

new lesson

- Ask students how to pronouce the letter name

and the letter sound by saying “ This is the

letter Aa /ei / The letter A says / a/

-Repeat several times and check student’s

pronunciation(letter Aa /ei / and its sound / /

-Use the phonics cards with glass ,goat and

garden , read the words out loud and ask

Listen and repeat

- Group work -Individually

-Look the cards and repeat

-Call some ss to say the words out loud and

correct their mistakes

2 Practice 10’

*Activity1 : Memory game

- Put the phonics cards of ant , apple, alligator

, Aa on the board

- Ak ss to memorise the order of these cards

- Ask ss to close their eyes ,remove one phonics

card radmly and ask individual ss to name it

- Continue changing the other cards

- Remember to correct student’s pronunciation

throughout the lesson

*Activity 2: Where the letter 3’

- Ask ss to work in groups T hangs out the

photographs about the storry and ask ss to circle

the letter

- T give the time

- T corrects and praise the winner

3 Production:1’

- Show the letter Aa again , and ask ss to write

the Aa in air with their fingers

- Ask ss to write down the words ant, apple,

alligator into their notebook

C.Consolidation:1’

- T asks whole class to read the letter aloud

D Homelink:

Do the excersice 1,2,3

-Check the meaning

- Some ss to repeat

- Remember the cards

- Circle the letter

- Write letter Aa in the air -Copy down

A Warm up : 5’

- Ask ss to review the letter Aa and the words

Ant, apple, alligator

B Presentation:15’

1 Listen and point Colour

- Ask ss to look at the books and listen to the

words An ant , an apple, an alligator

-Use gestures ( hand actions ) to help ss to

understanding the meaning of command

-Ask ss to repeat by using the phonics cards of

ant, apple ,alligator combining with gestures

- Ask ss to colour the ant, the apple ,the

alligator using any colour they like

- T goes round the classroom ,asking ss to

name the items they are coloring

*Activitiy :Pass the phonic card

- Using the phonic cards of Aa, ant

,alligator,apple and line up the ss into 2 teams

-Give the first ss of each team a phonics card

and say “go “

- Ss say the coresponding words and pass the

-Read aloud

- Listen and repeat

-colouring

- Work in groups

phonics card over their head to the ss behind

them

- Next, those ss repeat the words and pass the

phonics card between their legs to the ss

behind them

- Continue to pass the phonic card over their

head and between their legs to the last ss

- The last ss in each team give the card to

teacher and say the word correctly They will

get one point

- Which team has the most point wiil be

winner Continue the game as many times as

necessary

2 Chant and show: 10’

-Put up the lyris of the chant on the board

- Without music , use the phonics card and step

ss to sing the chant with ant Do the same with

apple and alligator

- With music ,the whole class sing the whole

chant Do the chant again using gestures for

eacg word

- Give feedback

3 Production: 1’

-Ask ss to write the chant in to note book

-Ask ss to do excersise in the work book

C.Consolidation:1’

- T asks whole class to read the chant aloud
