UNIT 13: Mm Lesson 3 + Lesson 4

1 OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, Ps will be able to:

- Read and say the three Mm words correctly

- Recognize and say a new Mm word correctly

* Handicapped - Hải Vân (1B) can listen, read and say letter Mm and

words correctly with teacher’s help.

1 Language focus:

- Vocabulary: moon, mouse, milk, monkey

2 Skill: Reading, listening, speaking, writing

II TEACHING AIDS:

1 Teacher: Pupil’s book, CD, phonic cards

2 Student: pupil’s book, page 61

III METHODS: P.P.P, games, chant

IV PROCEDURE:

1 Organization (1’):

- Greet Ps

- Check Ps’ attendance

2 Warm up (4’): Which one is missing

- Put the moon, mouse, milk phonics cards on the desk

- Give students some seconds to look at them

- Have students close their eyes and take away one phonics card

- Tell students to open their eyes and name the phonics card that is missing

3 New lesson (25’):

Activity 1:

- Ask students to look at the pictures in the book

6 Listen and circle Yes or

No

and name each object.

- Play the CD.

- Ask students to listen and circle the Yes or No

for each picture

- Have some individuals point to the items and say

them again

Answer keys: 1 yes, 2 no, 3 yes

4 yes, 5 no, 6 yes

* Handicapped - Vân (1B) say the words then

circle with teacher’s help.

Extension: yes or no game:

- Call one student come to the front of the class.

- Give him/her a phonics card.

- Ask him to read the card, if he/she reads

correctly, the rest of students say “yes” If he/she

reads incorrectly, the the class say “no”

Activity 2:

Listen point and repeat

- Show the students the monkey phonics card.

Point to it and say: / m / - monkey Ask them to

repeat

- Mime: put one hand on top of the head, the other

underneath the arm and scratching and say: /m /

-monkey Encourage the students to do the same

- Point to the pictures, the students do

corresponding actions and say the words

-Play the CD, students listen and repeat

- Ask students to work in pair: The first student

point to the pictures and the other student say the

word then change the roles

* Handicapped - Hải Vân (1B) listen and

repeat Colour the picture with m sound with

teacher’s help.

Colour :

-Point to the pictures and have students name

them

- Allow the students some time to colour in the

pictures of the words that start with the m sound

- Go around the classroom providing any

necessary help

Activity 3:

Trace and say + Trace and match: guide to Ss to

do exercises at home

Activity 3 (6’):

- Ask students to look at the picture in the activity

book, find the way that Mark is going to travel to

find his friends

- Have students circle the letters in the way Mark

travels

- Go around and ask students to read the letter they

are circling

* Handicapped - Hải Vân (1B) realize the

pictures with the l sound Circle and write the

letter Mm

Activity 4 (7’):

- Have students to read the words in each picture

- Check the meanings of the words

- Ask students to choose pictures corresponding

with the words in each

- Have student colour the chosen pictures

Go around and ask individuals to name the picture

they are colouring

3 Draw Mark’s path to his friens Circle the letters he finds on his way Say the sounds

4 Choose and colour

4 Consolidation: Guessing game (5’):

- Ask students to close their book.

- Have a student come to the front of the class.

- Choose a word in the phonics cards.

- Have the student mime it.

- The rest of the class try to guess the word.

5 Homework: Ask Ps to practice writing the letter Mm and the words at home.

STORY TIME

I OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- To consolidate the sound of the letters Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm and the corresponding words

- Learn and practice reading skills

1 Language focus:

- Vocabulary (revision): ink, igloo, iguana, insect

jam, jelly, juice, jacket kite, kitten, koala, kangaroo lemon, lion, lollipop, lamp moon, mouse, milk, monkey

2 Skill: Reading, listening, speaking, writing

II TEACHING AIDS:

1 Teacher: students' book, CD, phonic cards

2 Student: student’s book, crayons/colour pencils

III METHODS: T.P.R; games.

2 Warm up: passing the cards (5’):

- Choose some phonics cards from Unit 9-13

- Divide the class into 2 groups, A and B, and make two lines

- Get Ps to play passing the cards game

3 Revision & Practice (24’):

Teacher and Students’ activities Content

Activity 1 (10’):

- (Book closed) Tell the students that it’s story

time

- Ask them if they remember the previous story

If not, the teacher can spend some time going

through it

- Prepare phonics cards of these words: mouse,

igloo, lion, lollipop, kitten, kite, moon

1 Listen Read along

- Ask the students to read out the words.

- Invite students to guess what they think the

story is about

- Ask the students to look at the book

- Ask them questions about what they can see in

the pictures

- Play the CD and ask the students to listen and

follow the story in their books

- Play the CD again and get them to repeat

- Ask individual students to read the story aloud

* Handicapped - Hải Vân (1B) can listen,

read along with teacher’s help.

Extension (3’):

- Ask the student to close their books

- Say incomplete sentences from the story and

ask individual students complete them

e.g Teacher: The lion has a…

Class: lollipop! etc

Activity 2 (6’):

- Point to the sentences and elicit the animal in

each

- Ask the students to say what each animal has,

according to the story

- The students then draw those items, using any

colors they like

Extension: Drawing (5’)

- Students choose their favourite animals or

objects from the story, then draw and decorate

it following their hobbies

2 Read and draw

4 Consolidation (5’):

- Read the sentences in the story, pause at the key words

- Invite the students to mime them (the hippo, the elf, the garden, the fish, the frog).

- Have the students come to the front of the classroom and act out the story

- Encourage them to have fun as they perform

5 Homework: Get Ps to practice reading the story at home.
