2.2 The difficulties and lessons in the internship process

2.2.1 The difficulties in the internship process

The internship process as an teaching assitant at Scots English can be challenging in several ways In my internship process, the biggest difficult is no experence in teaching In the early days, I did not know how to teach Thus, students often do not understand the lesson. In addition, I do not have much pedagogical experience so sometimes I meet special students or students who do not listen to me not knowing how to handle it.There are many students sitting well, hard

to listen to lectures but there are also naughty, stubborn students. In the early days, I was quite timid and shy so I often could not manage students and spoke quite small Moreover, in that day, my listening skills were not good so sometimes I misunderstood the teacher's ideas.During the internship, I have met and interact with many types of students As a result, the students could not hear me clearly Apart from teaching method , I also have problem with translation from English to Vietnamese Firstly, the english words are very complicated because of variety of its structures in English as above analysis that are both the same and different from Vietnamese. The complication and peculiarity of compound’s framework directly correspond to the troubles of translation As a result, interpreters and translators regularly have to accrete, decrease, and change around source words to effectively communicate in the English language Additionally, difference between vietnamese intonation and native speakers’ intonation makes me confused when translating and interpreting

2.2.2 Lessons in the internship process:

a, Knowledge acquired

My four-week internship was not long but was very useful for me and I learned more avaluable working experience than I expected This internship course gave me an opportunity to use my English knowledge through four skills: listening,

Trang 13

grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation were improved a lot Beside,I also learn how to use Word and Excel Additionally, the AF and the foreign teacher also taught me about teaching knowledge They showed me how to say it is easy to understand From there, my knowledge about the pedagogy are expanded. As mentioned above, in the early days of practice, I was quite shy, so after 4 weeks of internship, I improved my communication ability. In addition, I also experienced and learned about the culture of the United States as well as Australia

b,Skills improved

During the past four week internship a Scots English Center, the internship course brought me  many oppoturnities to improve many skills, including  interpreting, translating, teamwork or teaching skill

Fristly, my internship made a difference me to pick up significant proficient information.I had occasion to communicate with native speaker teacher, teach students English and translate many important documents Teachers and central staff showed me how to translate documents or explain to the student confidently and perspicuous. Moreover, through this practice course I can learn the interpretation skills I had the opportunity to be a translator for native teachers These valuable experiences will help me a lot for my future work

Secondly, in the trainee process, my teamwork skills have improved Teamwork and work in pair helped me a lot in improve about the cooperation between people In other words, thanks to working with coworkers, my communication skill with many people and presentation skill in front of them were also better

The last skill I learned from this internship was teaching skill I had a time working as a teacher and teaching assistant. In intern process, thanks to the instructed teachers, I knew how to make it easier for students to understand Furthermore, I picked up some of their valuable soft skills such as time management and communication skills as well Without a doubt, this opportunity will be helpful to my future jobs Thanks to center’s teachers and staff at Scots English center, I became more confident when I was opening and sociable with everyone in friendly working environment
