Unit 5 : LETTER E

Lesson 1

I Aims:

1 Knowledge:By the end of the lesson, students can be able to:

Recognize and pronounce the letter Ee and its sound correctly

Understand, recognize and say the three Ee words

Write the letter Ee

Vocabulary : Egg, elf, elephant

Sight words : Hello

2 Skills: Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing

3.Attitude: Recognize and pronounce the letter E and its sound

*(Requirements: students with disability can see and say right words)

II Teaching aids

1 Teacher’s:i-Learn My Phonics Grade 1 , lesson plan, CD Phonics cards

2 Students’: Pupil’s Book –p.9 i-Learn My Phonics Grade 1,

 Activity book – p 22 & 23

III.Teaching methods

Teacher’s and Students’ activities Content

Activity 1

Introduction of letter Ee, its sound and

how to pronounce the words beginning

with Ee (7mins)

Use a card with letter Ee (or write on the

board the letter Ee) to introduce to the

students the new lesson

Instruct students how to pronounce the

letter name and the letter sound by saying:

“This is the letter Ee /i :/ The letter b

says /e/.”

Play the CD

Ask students to repeat several times and

check their pronunciation (letter Ee /i :/and

its sound /e/)

Use the phonics cards with egg, elf, and

elephant, read the words out loud and ask

students to repeat

Use gestures (hand actions) to help

students to understand the meanings of the

three words

Check students’ understanding: Teacher

says the words, all students do actions and

vice versa

Call some students to say the words out

loud and correct their mistakes (if any)

Requirements: students with disability can

see and say the 2 pictures

Activity 2

Have students look at the books and listen

to the words: hello

Use gestures (hand actions) to help

1.Listen, point and repeat Colour (Track 28):

2,Listen and point Match (Track 29): Read the commands

Students to understand the meanings of

commands

Ask students repeat by using the phonics

cards of egg, elf, and elephant combining

with gestures

Then, ask students to look at the missing

puzzle pieces and match them to the

pictures

Go around the classroom and provide

necessary help

Requirements: students with disability can

see and match

Activity 3

Put up the lyrics of the chant on the board

Without music, use the phonics cards and

step students to sing the chant with egg

Do the same with elf and elephant.

With music, the whole class sings the

whole chant Do the chant again using

gestures for each word

Give feedback

Requirements: students with disability

can sing the chant

Production (5mins)

Activity 1: Writing in the air

Show the letter Ee again, have students

write the Ee in air with their fingers.

Requirements: students with disability

can see and write the letter E

with preceding “Hello” (5mins)

the word that the teacher says

Play the CD Have the students listen to

the story once

Play the CD again The students listen and

point to the pictures of the key words

when they hear them in the story

Read the story The students follow their

books

Teacher reads the printed words then let

the students point to the pictures and say

the words

Ask students work in pairs One reads the

printed words while the other points to the

pictures and says the words

Activity: Say the Sight Words (3mins)

 Point to and say the sight words: an, hello

Have students repeat

Call on some students read them aloud

and correct pronunciation (if any)

4 Listen Read Along (Track 31) (8mins)

Activity: Say the Sight Words (3mins)

Activity 2

5 Song (Track 06) (5mins)

Put the egg, elf and elephant phonics cards

up on the board

Point to the elf and elephant, and say:

“The elf is with an elephant, elephant,

elephant” The students repeat.

Follow the same procedure and present the

rest of the song

Play the CD The students listen and sing

along

Play the CD again The students sing and

do corresponding actions

Activity: Musical Cards Game (5mins)

Divide the class into 3 groups, A, B and C

Hand the unit phonics cards (e.g egg, elf

and elephant) out to different student

around the class

Play the lively music (the teacher should

use the unit’s song)

The students pass the phonics cards to

students next to them around the class

while the music is playing

Stop the music suddenly Ask the students

who are keeping the phonics card speak

out it

Play the music and continue

Remember to correct students’ pronunciation

Requirements: students with disability

can sing the song

5 Song (Track 06) (5mins)
