job), and the other denoting action or

2.1 Word study

Nouns derived from Verbs

- Elicit from Ss different suffixes used to

form nouns from verbs

+ Denoting person who does an activity

or things which do a job:

- (t)ion, -ment, -ing No change in form

- Ask Ss to write the nouns denoting doer

and activity from the verbs given in the

table

- Let Ss compare answers in pairs and then

write their answers in front of the class

- -er,-or /ə/ –ant /ənt/, -ist /ist/ (often used

for people playing musical instruments) Eg: accountant, guitarist, payer

- -ee /i:/ can contrast with –er in

meaning;-er ‘pmeaning;-erson who does something’, and –ee
