Trang 107 FLOW CHART AND DIRECTION OF WORK
The work sequence of tiling floor and wall are shown at the following flowchart
Covered by previous submittal
1 Columns, slab, wall construction
Start of Tiling
2 Installing door, window frame
3 Electrical work, plumbing, waterproofing
End
3 Floor Tiling (screeding, applying)
1 Set up tile layout
2 Wall tiling (plastering, applying)
4 Filling paste to the joints
5 Cleaning tiles
Trang 118 PREPARATION WORKS
8.1 Cleaning and check
Sub-base surface :
- Remove any dust, dirt, foreign matter on the wall, floor
- Damp the wall, floor surface with clean water
Tiles:
- Check dimensions, shape of tile to ensure their uniformities
- Moisten all tiles by soaking in the water for a while
8.2 Mock up
The mock-ups for tiling work on site will be done by ACSC before application for all toilets The location
of mock-up with the plan layout drawings shall be proposed and submitted by ACSC to Kajima Vietnam for approval The location of mock-ups shall be chosen by KOA in such a way that the openings of a door and window, floor drains, penetrated pipes, floor and wall shall be involved
8.3 Forming the bed of tiling
Wall tiling:
- Check the distance of the walls to suit with the tile layout
- Using theodolite to set up all finished planes of wall tile to ensure their plumbness, flatness and perpendicularity at the corners Mark the set up lines onto the walls
- Using string to set base points for the plaster coat onto the walls by deduct the thickness of the tile
- Apply the method of plaster work to plaster onto the wall to get true surfaces where the tiles will be applied Tile backing shall be cement plaster applied in conformity with requirements in the specification
Floor tiling:
- Based on level benchmark and designed slope of the floor, set up the finish surface of floor tiles then mark its intersection lines with the walls onto the wall surfaces
- Using string to set base points for the screed layer onto the floor slab by deduct the thickness of the tile
- Level pegs shall be installed by following marked lines on floor surface for water dividing lines to keep the floor slope at least one day before floor screed The spacing of level pegs shall be less than 2.0 m
- For toilet floor areas which are waterproofed, a special care of protection to waterproof layers shall
be taken by Subcontractor Material for installation of level pegs shall be screed mortar
- Screed the mortar onto the slab then flatten with tool such as straight bar Mortar to bed is of 1 cement to 3 sand mixture and well mixed on the site
- A straightedge tolerance of 2.0mm/2m shall be allowed for floor screed surface finish
- Trowel by hand to get a true, flat finish surface
Trang 128.4 Set up tiles layout
- All check lines for walls of room and grid lines shall be re-marked on floor screed Marked lines such
as check lines and grid lines on floor shall be matched to lines marked on walls
- Room dimensions, wall corners, wall lines shall be checked for right angle based upon on the marked lines If any discrepancies are found then repair shall be carried out and accepted by Kajima Vietnam before tiling or other finish
- For wall tiling, the Subcontractor shall ensure that the lines of FFL+1000 (Floor Finish Level)
and the lines for the top layer and first layer of wall tiles to be marked sufficiently and correctly
- Based on the working drawing, using the level machine, theodolite, measure tape to set up the tiles layout and mark the tile joints onto the wall or floor bed The dimensions of tiling area will include the width of the tiles and the joints which shall be uniform 2mm wide
- Tiles will be arranged so that there will be no tile has the width smaller than the half width of their original dimensions They will also be set so that the center of any fitting such as floor drain, faucet will be right on the intersection of the joints
9 CONSTRUCTION METHOD
9.1 Mortar & mixing mortar
- Sand for mixed mortar shall be natural sand free from any deleterious materials such as clay, flaky
or elongated particles, mica, shale or other laminated materials, organic impurities, iron pyrites Sand shall
be clean, hard, durable, crushed It shall be thoroughly washed and all dirt, shells etc…removed before use
- Water for brick work shall be clean and uncontaminated potable water from the city main supply or any other approved source free from harmful matter
- Mortar type to be used shall be sand-cement mortar, class mark #100 (28days compressive
strength 7.5 Mpa) with its proportion: 1 part of cement: 4 part of sand in volume
- The mortar proportion will be verified with the result of trial mix on site and testing prior to be use
- Mortar will be mixed by mixer which has capacity of 100 liters on site Material of mortar will be measured in containers with defined volume to maintain control and accuracy of proportion
- Mix by placing one-half the water and sand in operating mixer Then add cement and remainder of sand and water Mix batch for not less than 3 minutes after all ingredients are in the mixer
- Workability or consistency of mortar on the board shall be sufficiently wet to be worked under the trowel
9.2 Tiling sequence:
- Ceramic tiles shall be or soaked in water before installation
- Tile will be installed by using thin set of tile grout to apply on the prepared bed surface The
thickness of cement adhesive will not exceed 3mm
- To ensure a uniform of joint width, PVC spacers shall be used to ensure joint width shall be 2.0 mm
Trang 13- Wall tiling will start row by row from the bottom to the top.
DIRECTION OF TILING

- Permanently using straight bar to check the plumpness, flatness of the finished surface; square meter to check the perpendicularity at the intersection of the walls
- Always cleaning the tile surface to ease the inspection of tiling
Floor tiling:
- Floor tiling should be carried out after the wall tiling completed Unless specified on the drawings, floor tiling joint lines and wall tiling joint lines shall be aligned and the wall tile installation must be completed before floor tiling
- The floor tile arrangement for 2 rows in perpendicular directions from start point on the floor shall
be carried out to check the correctness between the drawings and the actual site condition
- Where the floor is required to slope the Subcontractor shall check for floor tile joint line at water dividing line The level of installed tiles along the water dividing line shall be at the required level to ensure the design slope
- Floor tiling shall start from the centre of the room In order to avoid any cumulative error of floor tile installation, the start of floor tiling from the room corner shall be avoided
Trang 16- Permanently using straight bar to check the flatness of the finished surface; spirit level to check the slopping of the floor
- Always cleaning the tile surface to ease the inspection of tiling
Work sequence:
- Preparing the right tile units Cutting, beveling them before, if necessary
- Fully plastering the adhesive onto the back of the tiles.
- Placing the tile unit in position
- Slightly move and press the tile to the bed surface
- Using rubber hammer to slightly clap onto the tile
- Insert the plastic stick the check the joint width and adjust the tile until get the true position
- Using straight bar the check the flatness of the tile unit with the true surface
- Repeat the clapping, adjusting the tile unit until it reach all requirements
9.3 Finishing:
Filling the joints:
- Using white cement grout to paste onto the wall, floor tiles to fill the joints
- Before grout become set, using clothes or sponge to skillfully remove the excess grout to make the joint neat and clean
Trang 17Cleaning, protecting:
- Thoroughly remove any stains of grout, dust on the tile surface
- Protect the tile from damages of any following construction activities Special cares should be taken with hard and heavy tools, equipment such as door, scaffolding, machine…
