Lesson 1

A Aims: By the end of the period, Ss will be able to ask and answer questions about

someone’s address

*Sentence patterns: - What’s your address?

It’s in/ on/at ……

* Vocabulary: address, lane, tower, live, floor, street

* Teaching aids : student book, posters, CD, computer.

B Procedures :

I Warm up Slap the board

- Let Ss play the game with names of the characters that they have learnt in Tieng Anh 3 and

Tieng anh 4 like: Mai, Nam , Trung, Phong, Linda, Peter, Tom, Tony, Mary

- Praise the winner

- Introduce the lesson

II Look, listen and repeat

- Set the scene: Everyone, look at the pictures on page 6 and tell me:

Who are they?

Where are they now?

Who is a newcomer?

Where’s he( she)from?

Where’s he(she) living now?

- Have Ss listen to the recording as they read the lines in the speech bubbles

- Play the recording again for Ss to repeat the lines in the speech bubbles two times

- Divide the class into groups to take turns to say the lines in the speech bubbles

- Have ss make groups of 3 and repeat them

- Correct the mistakes if necessary

III Point and say

- Pre-teach the vocabulary: lane, road, street, flat, floor, tower

- Tell ss that they are going to pratice asking and answering about one’s address

- Elicit sentence pattern: What’s your address?

- Tell ss that they are going to pratice further asking and answering questions about address

- Remind ss how to use sentence parttens:

Where do you live ? - I live

- make model with a student

- Have ss pratice in pairs and then call a few pairs to present in front of the class

- Correct the pronunciation if necessary

- have ss practice asking and answering questions about one’s address

I Warm up:

- Call 3 pairs to ask and answer about their addresses in front of class

- give feedback

II Listen and complete

- Tell ss that they are going to listen to the recordings and complete the addresses

- Have ss look at the sentences to identify the similarities and differences between

sentences Check their understanding

- Play the recording twice for ss to listen

- Get them to compare their answers before checking as a class

- Play the recording again and have ss confirm their answers

- Call ss give their answers

III Read and complete

- Tell them that they are going to read the text and fill street, address,lives, from in the gap

IV Let’s sing

- Tell them that they are going to sing a song

- Explain the new words, structures and have them read each line of the lyrics

- Play the recording and ask whole class to repeat the song When ss are familiar with the tune , ask a group to sing the song in front of the class

- Have the class sing the song again and clap their hands or do actions

village /town/ city is like

* Vocabulary: like, quiet, crowded, pretty, busy, large

* Teaching aids : student book, posters, CD, computer.

B Procedures :

I Warm up:

Sing the song “ The wheels on the bus”

II Look , listen and repeat

- Have Ss open the book page 8 and identify the characters in the pictures.

- Set the scene:“you are going to hear Trung and Quan talking about Trung’s

hometown”

- Play the recording all the way through for Ss to listen while they are reading the

dialogue

- Play the recording again for Ss to repeat each line of the dialogue a few times

- Ask the groups to repeat the dialogue and swap

- Pre-teach some new words:

+ mountain

+ quiet

+ hometown

- Have Ss practice the dialogue in pairs

- Call on some pairs to perform, others comment

- Correct the mistakes

III Point and say.

- Have Ss look at 4 pictures on page 8

- Ask them to describe pictures

- Pre-teach new word”

- Ask Ss to read aloud all phrases a few time

- Ask Ss to look at the speech bubble and guess what information they fill

I Warm up: Game: Bingo

- Tell ss that they are going to listen to four dialogues and circle a or b to complete the sentences

- Ass them to read the sentences and guess the correct answers

- Have ss look at the sentences to identify the similarities and different betwween sentences Check understanding

- Play the recordings a few times recording ask ss to listen the recordings and circle

- Get ss to compare their answers

- Call ss to give their answers and correct them

- Have Ss open the book page 10, draw their attention to the stress in the words

- Play the recording twice and ask Ss to repeat

I Warm up:

-Spend a few minutes having the class say the chant Where do you live?

II Read and tick Yes (Y) or No (N).

- Tell the class that they are going to read the text and tick Yes or No.

- Get them to read the sentences and underline the key words/phrases before reading the passage to find the relevant information

- Give them an example: In Sentence 1, Trung lives with his parents in ha Noi But in the passage, the information is: Trung lives with his grandparents in ha Noi So Ss should tick the box No.

- Set a time limit for pupils to do the task independently Monitor the activity and offer help,

if necessary

- Have them compare their answers before checking as a class

- Feedback

III Write about your friend.

- Tell the class that they are going to write about one of their friends

- Give them time to read the questions and write the frst draft of their answers in their

- Invite a few groups to present their drawings to the class and talk about them

- If there is not enough time, give the activity as homework and talk about the drawings in the next lesson as a warm-up activity

V Colour the stars.

- Have the class read the statements and check their comprehension

- Give them time to colour the stars and invite a few pupils to read the statements aloud

- Give further support to pupils who find it difcult to achieve certain objectives

morning/afternoon/ evening? I always/usually/often/sometimes

II Listen and tick.

- Tell the class that they are going to listen to the recording and tick the correct pictures

- Ask them to look at the pictures to identify the characters and their activities

- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen and tick the pictures Play it again for them to check their answers Monitor the activity and offer help, if necessary

- Get pupils to compare their answers before checking as a class Play the recording a thirdtime to confrm the answers
