Usage:

Who is used when the noun phrase being replaced is in the subject position of the sentence when we’re talking about people.Whom: is used when it is from the

complement position

Which: when we are talking about things,

we use that or which (not “who”)Whose: This relative pronoun indicated possession

Note: In speech, whom is rarely used, but it should be used when approriate in formal written English If you have difficulty deciding whether who or whom should be used, remember the following rule

Grammar: Reduce relative clause.

Rút gọn bằng cách dùng Participle phrase có

2 loại Participle phrase

Present participle phrase:

Bắt đầu bằng V-ing Nếu động từ trong mệnh đề quan hệ ở thể chủ động (Active) ta

dùng present participle phrase.

Past participle phrase

Nếu động từ trong mệnh đề quan hệ ở thể bị

động (passive) ta dùng past participle

phrase.

Note:

-Chỉ có mệnh đề quan hệ không xác định (non – defining relative clause ) có thể được rút gọn bằng cụm danh từ

-Mệnh đề quan hệ xác định (defining relative clause) có thể rút gọn bằng cụm động từ nguyên mẩu dùng to V-inf hoặc for+ object+to inf

- Sau các từ first, second, …., last , next, only , và dạng so sánh nhất (superlatives) IV.Consolidation
