to the weig hts an dimensions permit ed b the Motor V ehicles ( Construction
and Use) Reg ulations No.32 :19 9 The present rev ision incorporates
a ditional d ta for articulated v ehicles considered neces ary as a result of
ex erience in the use of the stand rd
Traier man facturer wi note that the a plcation of this stand rd depends
upon the k owled g e of the dimensions of the towing v ehicles User wi note
that the phy sical inter hang ea i ty betwe n the towing v ehicle and the
semi traier do s not itself ensure comp tibi ity of loa car y ing , braking ,
lg hting an ov eral leng th
It is important that the eq uipment be so desig ned that semi traier wi l couple
easiy and satis actori y with the towing v ehicle, an not slope forward when
the fifth whe l is mou ted in ac ord nce with the dimensions g iv en in this
stand rd
NOT The v lues sp cified in imp rial u is are to b reg arded as the stan ard The metric u is

Care shal be taken to ensure that when working to the positions and heig hts shown in the ta les there
shal be no foulng betwe n the rear of the towing v ehicle and its mudg uards and the a jacent p rts of the
semi traier at a fore and aft articulation of up to plus and min s8° f om the desig ned static position when
the combination is in a straig ht lne
The clearance plane p s ing throug h point C ( se Fig ure 2) at the b ck of the ca is a flat transv er e plane
sloping forward f om point C at an ang le of8° as shown and is intend ed to prov ide clearance for the8° fore
an aft articulation req uirement, an for semi trai er clearance ov er chas is eq uipment mou ted at the
b ck of the tractor ca
The ca profi e shown in Fig ure 2 permits a ma imum semitrai er articulation of10 ° The clearances of
v ehicles bui t to the dimensions in Ta le 2 are such that the flat b ck of ca ma extend to the ful leg al
width of2.5metres
4 Heig hts
The heig hts of the fifth whe l face f om the g rou d , with the v ehicle u la en an u coupled , shal be as
g iv en in Ta le 3 when the fifth whe l is set at a minimum of6in ( 15 mm) and a ma imum
