a sy stem that render the interior an exterior
controls of any closure inopera le other than b
operation of the sy stem’s external lock( s)
4 Performance
4.1 The locking sy stems shal conform to
BSAU20 -1a and , for central y locked sy stems,
BSAU20 -5 in the locked modes
4.2 The dead locking sy stem shal be instal ed so
that entry to the p s eng er or lug g ag e comp rtment
of the v ehicle, either directly or v ia the eng ine
comp rtment, can ot be achiev ed b the use of
simple to ls
4.3 In ord er to activ ate the dea locking sy stem the
external lock shal be operated with its own key or
remote unit The external lock shal hav e either:
a) thre conditions ( unlocked , normal locked and
d ead locked ) where d ea locking is a sep rate
d el berate action an is not an u inter upted
contin ation, u der simi ar for e lev els, of the
action req uired to achiev e normal locking ; or
b) two conditions ( unlocked and dead locked)
where only internal controls are prov id ed for
normal locking ( i.e.anti hijacking )
4.4 W hen the d ea locking system is activ ated
either al internal closure controls shal f e -whe l
or it shal not be pos ible to release any latch by :
a) the a plcation of a stea y for e of( 30 ±10)N
for5s minimum in any direction on the
a propriate u locking control; or
b) if the control normal y operates in a rotational
mov ement, the a plcation of a stea y torq ue
of( 50±3)N· m for5s minimum in each
direction
W here a mechanism is f actured or d mag ed as a
result ofa) orb), it shal be de med to conform to
this Part of BS AU20 prov ided that the
a propriate latches hav e not be n released
4.5 It shal not be pos ible to lock a central y
powered d ead locking sy stem if:
a) the statutory protectiv e d ev ice has not be n
activ ated , or set to activ ate;
b) the v ehicle ig nition,or the diesel eq uiv alent,is

4.6 It shal not be pos ible for a sing le power
malfunction to cause d ead locking of al the d oor
Compl ance shal be checked b calculation The
man facturer shal maintain ev id ence that the
calculation method used simulates the results
obtained b the method des ribed in Annex B
4.7 The locking sy stem shal be desig ned to ensure
that dead locking shal not be efectiv e in the normal
operating condition of the v ehicle
5 Test conditions
5.1For the tests specified in Annex A and Annex B,
a representativ e complete v ehicle shal be prov ided
tog ether with instalation d rawing s of the sy stem
a plca le to the v ehicle
NOT Pre-test familiarizaton of the de d locking system b
e aminaton of the v hicle an the drawing s is p rmi ed
5.2 Only those p rts of the dead locking sy stem that
hav e not be n tested in ac ord nce with
BS AU20 -1a and BS AU20 -5 , including any
p rts located within the eng ine comp rtment, shal
be tested in ac ord nce with Annex A and Annex B
5.3 For tests car ied out with the dea locking
sy stem activ ated, al g lazing , excluding security
g lazing , g iv ing ac es to the p s eng er
comp rtment shal be either broken or remov ed
except for the last 10mm a ov e the bot om of the
d y lig ht opening
5.4 Before the start of the tests al external closures
shal be ful y closed and latched, and locked where
locks are prov ided
