with the sup ort of the Home Ofice an org anizations con ected with law

enfor ement, the motor v ehicle construction ind ustry and v ehicle user

org anizations

Hitherto, no stand rd has existed for the United King dom that d efines the

perormance and use of eq uipment intended to prev ent or deter u authoriz d

entry into or remov al of a motor v ehicle

This stand rd is not a substitute for anti bur t latch test req uirements of v ehicle

d oor , nor for protectiv e d ev ices used on the ste ring sy stem, transmis ion or g ear

lev er

It is considered es ential that g ood s v ehicles should be equip ed with a dea

locking faci ty which requires minimum efort f om the driv er to achiev e a

satisactory lev el of v ehicle security

It is recog niz d that this stand ard cov er a relativ ely new area, not prev iously

stand ardiz d and that it ma be neces ary to amen the requirements resulting

fom initial ex erience of its use

6 Functiona l requir ments

6.1All closures to the d riv er’s comp rtment shal be

either:

a) secured b latches which are ca a le of being

locked f om inside and outsid e the driv er’s

comp rtment; or

b) neces itate prior ac es to the d riv er’s

comp rtment in ord er to remov e closures,

e.g ro f mou ted air conditioning eq uipment

6.2 Normal locking shal be achiev able on ev ery

closure in the d riv er’s comp rtment b the internal

locking control which shal in ibit ac es to the

comp rtment ( the anti hijack prov ision), such

action shal be rev er ible so that exit is alway s

pos ible fom within the comp rtment

6.3 Opening windows shal not mov e more

than5mm in the direction of the opening when a

loa of7 0 N ± 10 N is a pl ed within 20 mm of the

plane of the wind ow and in the d irection of opening

the window

6.4 The central power locking sy stem, where fit ed,

shal permit the internal locking and u locking

controls for each closure to be indiv idualy efectiv e

It shal be pos ible to operate the central power

locking sy stem fom:

a) at least one nominated point within the

driv er’s comp rtment of the v ehicle; and

b) at least one specific external nominated point

6.5 Dea locking shal only be achiev able b

operation of the d riv er’s and f ont p s eng er’s d oor

exterior locks operated b their own specifical y

coded key s S ch sy stems shal be tested in

ac ord nce with clause 5 All other closures to the

driv er’s comp rtment shal be simultane usly

dead locked on d ea locking either the d riv er’s or

f ont p s eng er’s do r Detai ed req uirements for

dead locking sy stems are:

a) the dea locks shal hav e two positions,

u locked an dead locked;

NOT Normal locking ma b achie ed b use of the

internal locking u locking control.Pro ision should b made

for emerg ency eg res fom the driv r’s comp rtment in a

de dlocked con i on

b) indiv id ual dead lock closures to the load

car y ing area ma be u locked b the key for that

closure;

c) it shal not be pos ible to activ ate or deactiv ate

the dea locking sy stem b the a plcation of

electromag netic or other transmis ions and

power sup ly v riations when tested in

ac ord ance with the a propriate method in

Annex B;

d ) it shal not be pos ible for a sing le power

malfunction to cause d ea locking of al the

closures Conformity shal be checked b

calculation, b sed on information which shal be

prov id ed b the manufacturer

7 Test conditions

7.1 For the tests specified in clause 5 a complete

v ehicle or representativ e portion there f shal be

prov ided for testing tog ether with instalation

d rawing s of the sy stem a plca le to the v ehicle

NOT Pre-test familiarizaton of the latch lin ag e,internal

locking de ice la out, central p wer locking system an

de dlocking system, b e aminaton of the v ehicle wih do r

trims remo ed an b e aminaton of the drawing s,is p rmi ed

7.2 Before the start of the tests al external closures

shal be ful y closed, latched and locked or

d ead locked, and any wind ow shal be in the fuly

closed position with minimum b cklash left in the

sy stem, immediately preced ing each test

7.3 For tests car ied out with the dea locking

sy stem activ ated al g lazing g iv ing ac es to the

d riv er’s comp rtment shal be either broken or

remov ed except for the last 10 mm a ov e the bot om

of the d ay lig ht opening

NOT 1 For tests to b car ied out on the de dlocking system,

ac es to the driv r’s comp rtment should b p rmi ed to

esta lish conformance to 3.9

NOT 2 The closure internal trim ma b remov ed, eiher

completely or p rtaly, pro ided that b so doing the pro e or

simple to l is not p rmi ed to p s into/throug h sp ces that

would otherwise b restricted b the trim if i were present. This

is to neg ate the ne d for the tester to b familiar wih the latch

mechanism when forming the pro e or simple to l

7.4 It shal not be pos ible to release or ena le the

release of the latches of any of the driv er’s

comp rtment closures an thereb g ain ac es to

the driv er’s comp rtment b the folowing methods,

without permanently distorting the closure or the

sur ou ding bod y a erture

a) I contact can be mad e with any p rt of the

latch as embly , latch l n ag e, lock or internal

locking and u locking control fom outside the

v ehicle using a probe formed fom a wire of

diameter 1.5 mm, then b) shal a ply to that p rt

which is in contact

b) Attach a simple to l v ia the external ac es

point of the probe an then replace the internal

trim Manipulate the to l ov er the rang e of

directions which are pos ible f om the ac es

point whi e a ply ing loa throug h the to l up to a

ma imum of 3 0 N I no simple to l can be

at ached then that p rt of the ln ag e is

consid ered to hav e satis ied the req uirements

of7.4

NOT In the case where a larg e p rton of the lin ag e can b

contacted b the pro e, the tester ma restrict tests to the

mid-p int an to e ch en of that p rton
