a ditional requirements relating to braking The present rev ision incorporates
a ditional d ata consid ered neces ary as a result of ex erience g ained in the use
of the stand ard , b amend ments to the title, Clause1 and Fig ure 1 It

This BritishStand rd specifies req uirements for
automatic roler-ty pe couplng s for semi traier in
the rang e7 tons to14# tons lad en weig ht hav ing a
max imum imposed operating weig ht on the roler
of5#tons Howev er,the rol er should be plated for
a ma imum desig n imposed weig ht of6! tons to
prov ide a load ing tolerance
2 Dim ensions
The b sic dimensions of the automatic rol er-ty pe
couplng shal be as shown in Fig ure 1
3 Braking connections
3.1 Servic and em erg ency braking Service an
emerg ency brakes for the semi traier shal comply
with the requirements of BS AU23

the p rking dev ice for the serv ice l ne shal take the
form of a female member without a self-sealng
dev ice connected throug h a d ouble check v alv e
( chang e-ov er v alv e) to the mechanical actuator for
the second ry brake, so that when coupled to a
traier with mechanical brakes only , these are
operated fom the tractor serv ice brak e as wel as b
the tractor second ary brake control
3.2 Se ondary braking Operation of the
second ry braking sy stem on the semi trai er shal
be b mechanical means throug h the coupl ng
turnta le; for ex mple b a push rod conforming to
the d imensions shown in Fig ure 1 To ensure
inter hang ea i ity the efort at the push rod shal
be5.3±0.2 k N (1 20 ±5 lbf) when the rod
actuator is operated at an air pres ure
