Timing: 1 period (45 minutes)

I OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

1 Knowledge:

- Know how to recognise and use simple sentences to express their healthy living

2 Competence:

- Develop communication skills, be collaborative and supportive in pair work and group work, actively join in class activities

- Develop 4 skills and interactive skills

3 Attitude:

- Be responsible and hard working

- Know how to care for their health

III PROCEDURES:

*Activity 1: Warm up: (5 minutes)

Goal The activity aims to activate students’ prior knowledge and vocabularyrelated to the targeted grammar.

Goal The activity aims to introduce students the form of simple sentences

Procedure

- Teacher draws students’ attention to the sentences in the answers from the Warm-up and writes 1 more example, then underlines the main parts

of each sentence

- Students look at the board and listen to the teacher’s questions to identify each part of a sentence

- Students answer the teacher’s questions

- Teacher tells students that a simple sentence has only one subject and one verb, some simple sentences also have an object, some simple sentences also have an adverb

* Activity 3: (5 minutes)

Goal The activity aims to help students identify simple sentences

Input

Task 1: ( P21) Tick  the simple sentences.

1 The Japanese eat a lot of tofu 

2 She drinks lemonade every morning 

3 I don’t eat fast food, and I don’t drink soft drinks 

4 I am fit 

5 I like fish, but my sister likes meat 

Students can identify simple sentences and read them aloud

Procedure

- T asks sts to do the exercise individually and then compare with a classmate

- T calls on some students to explain their choice

- T aks sts to explain why sentences 3 and 5 are not simple sentences

- T writes sentences 3 and 5 on the board Underline the two subjects and predicates Circle the word ‘and’ and ‘but’

- T confirms the correct answers

Activity 4: Practice (6’) (Grammar)

Goal To help students identify S -V in a simple sentence

Input Task 2 ( P 21) Underline and write S for the subject and V for the

verb in each simple sentence below.

1 Vegetarians eat a lot of vegetables and fruit

2 Acne causes black and white pimples on the face

3 On Saturdays, my brother often spends two hours exercising at the sports centre

4 My mother didn’t buy my favourite cheesecake

5.We are not cleaning up our community library

Outcome - Sts look at the prompts of each sentence and identify S-V in the

sentence

- Students’ correct answers on the board

Goal To help students identify different parts of a simple sentence and put

them in the correct order to form a simple sentence

Input Task 3: Rearrange the words and phrases to make simple

sentences.

Outcome - Sts look at the prompts of each sentence and identify the parts of a

simple sentences

- Students’ correct answers on the board

Procedure -Students complete the task individually.

- Teachers ask them to compare answers in pairs before checking them with the whole class

- Teacher gives feedback as a class discussion

* Activity 6: Practice (7’) (Grammar)

Goal The activity aims to help further practice on writing out simple sentences

from the prompt given

Input

Task 4: Write complete sentence from the prompts You may have to change the words or add some.

Outcome

- Students look at the sentence and write out simple sentences from the prompts given

- Students’ correct answers on the board

Procedure - Teacher asks students to look at the prompts of each sentence and

divides the two main parts of the sentence

- Teacher asks students to do this exercise individually and then share their answers with partners

- Students do this exercise individually and then share their answers with partners

- Students read out their anwers and write on the board

- Teacher confirms the correct answers

* Activity 7: (7 minutes)

Goal To give Ss more advanced practice in forming a simple sentence fromtwo separate ones

Task 5 ( P 22) Work in pair Discuss and write a simple sentence from the two given sentences

Outcome

Key:

1 We avoid sweetened food and soft drink

2 My dad and I love outdoor activities

3 You should wear a hat and suncream

4 My mother read and downloaded the healthy tips

Procedure

- Teacher asks SS to work in pairs

- Teacher guides them to read the two separate sentences, discuss and determine the two main parts for the new sentence

- Then allow them some time to write the sentences

- Teacher calls some students to write the sentences on the board

- Teacher checks and gives feedback

*Activity 8: Wrap up (2 minutes)

Goal The activity aims to revise the knowledge that students have gained in

this lesson and prepare the new lesson

Input - Review the lesson they have learnt

Outcome Redo the tasks in A closer look 2 (Task1,2,3,4,5- P21,22).
