UNIT 10: AT THE ZOO

Lesson 1: 1, 2 (P.43)

I Objectives:

* By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

+ correctly pronounce the name of the letter M /m

+ correctly pronounce the name of the letter M / o in isolation and in the words: mango, monkey, mouse, mother

+ recognize the words in different situations when listening

- Ss can develop some following competences

+ Communicative and collaborative competence:act 1, 3 ,4

+ Problem-solving competence: act 1, 3

+ Self-studying and self-control competence: act 2, 3, 4

+ Problem-solving and creative competence: act 4

*Language focus:

- The letter and sound: M/m

- Vocabulary: mango, monkey, mouse, mother

- Differentiated teaching:

+ Incomplete ss: can pronounce the name of the letter M / m in the words: mango, monkey, mouse, mother

+ Well-completed ss: can recognize the words in different situations

when listening

II Materials:

-Teacher’s: books, pictures, flashcards,CD, TV, internet

-Students’: books, crayons

III Teaching activities:

Activity 1: Warm up

- Sing a song:

+ Ss look at Tivi and sing the song

Activity 2:

-Content 1 Listen and repeat

a Teaching the letter M/m

- Procedure:

+ Have Ss point to the letter M/m explain that the name of the letter M/m

is different from its sound /m /

+Encourage Ss to repeat several times

b.Set the scence:

- Procedure:

+ Play the recording again and have them listen, point to the letter M/m and the

mango, monkey, mouse, mother and repeat until they feel confident Correct pronunciation, if necessary

+Play the recording again and call some pupils to say the letter M/m and the

words mango, monkey, mouse, mother in front of the class

Activity 3:

-Content 2: Point and say

- Procedure:

+Have pupils look at the picture again, saying Look at the picture on

Page 43, please! Ask them to describe the picture again Draw their attention to

the letter M/m

+Have pupils look at the picture and describe it Draw pupils’ attention to the

letter M/m, the words next to the things and the color of the letter

+Ask pupils to point to the letter M/m Have them listen and repeat the sound

of the letter M/m

+ Show the picture and elicit Ss to say out the words

+Tell pupils to point to the word mango Ask them to listen and repeat the word + Repeat the same procedure with the words: monkey, mouse, mother Give

further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task

+Get them to point to the letter M/m and say it, saying Point to the

+Let them point to the mango and say mango , saying Point to the mango and say, please! Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult

+ Repeat the same procedure with the words: monkey, mouse,

mother Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task.

+ Ask pupils to work in pairs or in group

+ Invite some pupils to point to the picture and say the sound of the

letter and the words in front of the class

Activity 4:

-Fun cornner : play a game “Board race” with the words mango,

monkey, mouse, mother

- Procedure:

+ Divide class into two groups

+ T explains how to play the game

+ T sticks cards on the board

+ 2 groups are on 2 lines, in front of the board

+ T reads the words, Ss will touch this card

+ Congratulate the winner

 Consolidation:

- Content: Review the letter M/m and words (mango, monkey,

mouse, mother)

- Procedure:

+ Ask Ss to answer the following questions:

What have you learnt from the lesson today?

What are the core values of the lesson? (if the teacher can take from the lesson): good behavior to your mom, help your mom when you can

+ Praise some Ss who are hard working/ active/ good… as well as encourage others to try more

+ Give feedback

 Homework:

- Learn by heart the words: M/m, mango, monkey, mouse, mother

Lesson 2: 3, 4, 5 (P.44)

I Objectives:

* By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

+ correctly pronounce the sound of the letter M/m, the words mango, monkey, mouse, mother in the chant

+ Recognise target words and sentence structure while listening

+ Trace the letter M in upper case and m lower case

+ Fill in the missing letter in the words: mango, monkey, mouse, mother

- Ss can develop some following competences:

+ Communicative and collaborative competence:act 1,3,4 + Problem-solving competence: act 1,3

+ Self-studying and self-control competence:act 2, 3,4 + Problem-solving and creative competence: act 4

*Language focus:

- Words: mango, monkey, mouse, mother

- Differentiated teaching:

+ Incomplete Ss: can recognise target words while listening

+ Well-completed Ss: can hear sentence structure while listening

II Materials:

III Teaching activities:

Activity 1: Warm up

-Play game: Who’s faster?

- Procedure:

+ T explains how to play the game

+ T sticks 4 pictures on the board

+ 2 groups play the game

+ T calls 2 Ss from 2 groups standing, T points to the picture, 2Ss will say out the word The student who says the word first and correctly will get one point for his/her group

+ Congratulation to the winner

Activity 2:

-Content 3 : Listen and chant

- Procedure:

+ Have pupils look at the chant Ask them to pay attention to the letter

M/m.

+ Ask pupils to listen and repeat the first line, saying Listen again and repeat,

please! Then play the recording for them to listen and repeat until they feel

confident

+ Follow the same procedure with the other lines Show pupils how to

chant and clap their hands

+ Play the recording all the way through Ask pupils to listen and

repeat the chant individually and in chorus, saying Listen and chant, please!

Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult

+ Select some pupils to the front of the class to chant and clap their

hands The rest of the class may sing the chant along and clap their hands

Activity 3:

-Content 4: Listen and tick

- Procedure:

+Have pupils look at the first two pictures and say what they can see

Draw pupils’ attention to the boxes next to the letters a and b Check

comprehension

+Play the recording of the first sentence for pupils to listen

+ Encourage some pupils to point to the pictures and say the words in

front of the class

+ Ask pupils to say what they have heard and ticked

+ Ask pupils to share their idea with their partner

+ Call some to go to the board and write their answers

Activity 4:

-Content 5: Look and trace

- Procedure:

+ Have pupils look at the letter M (upper case), m (lower case) and the pictures and words Ask Ss to look at Tivi to see how to write M, m (Write

the upper case M and the lower case m on the board)

(+ Write the upper case M and the lower case m in broken lines on

the board)

+ Tell pupils to trace the letter M/m , saying Now use your pencil to

trace the letter M/m and fill in the missing words.

+ Check the results of pupils’ tracing and give feedback Ask pupils

to work in pairs and swap their answers

+ Ask some pupils to show what they have done Praise them if they have done well.

 Consolidation:

- Content: Review wordss and the chant

+ Phrases: mango, monkey, mouse, mother

+ Chant

- Procedure:

+ Ask students to answer the following questions:

What have you learnt from the lesson today?

What are the core values of the lesson? (if the teacher can

take from the lesson)

+ Praise some ss who are hard working/ active/ good… as well as encourage others to try more

 Homework:

Lesson 3: 6, 7, 8 (p.45)

I Objectives:

* By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

+ Recognige target words and sentence structure while listening + Use the sentence structures: That’s a monkey

+ Sing a song with the numbers and words: mango, monkey, mouse, mother

- Ss can develop some following competences:

+ Communicative and collaborative competence: act 1,3,4 + Problem-solving competence: act 1, 3

+ Self-studying and self-control competence:

+ Problem-solving and creative competence: act 4

*Language focus:

- Vocabulary: mango, monkey, mouse, mother

- Structure: That’s a monkey

- Differentiated teaching:

+ Incomplete Ss: can use the sentence structures: That’s a (mango, monkey, mother)

+ Well-completed Ss: can use the sentence structures : That’s a (mango, monkey, mouse, mother)

III Teaching activities:

Activity 1: Warm up

- Game: “Jumping the line”

- Procedure:

+ T explains how to play the game

+ T draws a line to divide the room into 2 sides, one side: True, one side: False + Ss are in one line in the middle (5-6Ss)

+ T shows a picture and reads a word If Ss think the word matches the picture, they should jump to the “True” side, otherwise they should jump to the “False” side Students who make a mistake sit out until the next round

Activity 2:

-Content 6: Listen and repeat

- Procedure:

+ Have pupils look at the picture, saying Look at the picture, please!

Describe the picture

+ Draw pupils’ attention to the structure Have pupils point to the

structure: That’s a monkey, listen to the recording and repeat the sentence.

+ Then play the recording again for them to repeat individually and in chorus Correct pronunciation

+ Play the recording several times again for pupils to listen and repeat the sentence

+ Invite a few pupils to listen and repeat the sentence ” That’s a

monkey” in front of the class Correct their pronunciation

Activity 3:

-Content 7: Let’s talk

- Procedure:

+ Point to each picture & elicit Ss to fill the gaps.

+ Have Ss repeat the text in the bubble a few times

+ Repeat the procedure with the second picture

+ Do choral & individual repetition

+ Have Ss practice in pairs Check as a class

+ Call a few pairs to pracitce in front of the class

Activity 4:

-Content 8: Let’s sing

- Procedure:

+Have pupils read the lyrics to familiarize themselves with the first verse

of the song

+Play the recording several times for pupils to repeat line after line to make sure that they can sing the verse correctly

+Have pupils listen to the whole song, drawing their attention to the

pronunciation, the stress and the melody of the song

+ Let pupils practice singing the song Help them sing the song sentence

by sentence first Then help them to sing the whole song

+ Ask Ss to sing the song in group

 Consolidation:

- Content: Review the structures and the song

- Procedure:

+ ask students to answer the following questions:

What have you learnt from the lesson today?

What are the core values of the lesson? ( if the teacher can take

from the lesson)

+ Praise some ss who are hard working/ active/ good… as well as encourage others to try more
