Story Time

I Objectives:

1 Knowledge: - To consolidate the sound of the letters Ee, Ff, Gg, Hh and the

corresponding words

- Learn and practice reading skills

2 Skills:

- Develop Ss speaking, reading and listening skills

3 Attitude: Educate Sts to love their lesson

Work hard

II TEACHING AIDS: computers, ipads, smart phones

1 Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette.

2 Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.

III TEACHING METHODS:

- Work in pairs , individual, in groups …

IV PROCEDURE:

1 Class organization :

- Greeting: Good morning/ Good afternoon How are you?

- Checking for the students’ attendence:

2 Warm up :6’

- Ask Ss to greet to each other

3 New lesson

1 Revision & Practice

Act 1 (15')

- (book closed) Tell the students that it’s story time

- Ask them if they like reading stories and what their

favourite storybook character is

- Prepare phonics cards of these word: hippo, elf,

garden, fish and frog

- Ask the students to read out the words

- Invite students to guess what they think the story is

about

- Ask the students to open and look at the book

- Ask them questions about what they can see in the

pictures

E.g: Teacher: (pointing to the elf in picture 1) Look!

What’s this?

Class: (It’s an) elf!

Listen Read along

Teacher: (pointing to the hat in picture 1) A happy

hippo with a ….

Class: hat! etc

- Play the CD and ask the students to listen and follow

the story in their books, pointing to the pictures of the

key words

- Play the CD again pausing for the students to repeat

- Ask individual students to read the story aloud

* Act 2: (7')

- Ask students to close their book

- Read out a few sentences from the story and ask the

students to complete them

e.g Teacher: look at my…

Class: garden! etc

Act 3 (7’)

- Point to an item in the story

- Ask individual student to correct teacher’s statements

The students circle the letters or the sound in each

picture

Go around the classroom to provide any necessary help,

ask individual students to say out the letters, the sounds

and the pictures

* Activity 2: (5 mins)

Explain the activity

Ask the students to name the items

The students use the code to colour each item according

to its initial sound

Go around the classroom providing necessary help

* Activity3: (8 mins)

Explain the activity

Ask the students to name the items

The students say the words for each picture and cross

out the one that has a different initial sound

Go around the classroom providing any necessary help

Act 4: (5 mins)

Explain the activity

Have students say the names of the items

Play the CD

The students listen and tick () yes or no

Answer key: 1_yes 2_no (goat) 3_yes

Circle the right letters Say the letter and the sound

Use the code and colour the pictures

Says the words Cross the odd one out
