LESSON AIMS:

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

 Learn how to make a discussion with partners about a topic

 Develop fluent speaking skill

 Deal with different means of transportation, and types of holidays in our

country

CONTENTS:

 Classroom activities

 Warm-ups

 Playing Vocabulary Games (A Picnic Game)

 Guessing the city or country students would like to visit

 Pre – Speaking Activities

 List the five things you would like to do on national holidays or on

vacation Then compare with your partner

 In groups, tell the other people about your last vacation or a vacation

you remember because it was special You could tell them about:

 The way you traveled

 Where you stayed

 How long you stayed

 The things you liked most about the vacation

 The souvenir gifts you bought for relatives or friends

 In groups, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of package

holidays and independent holidays

 Put the following means of transportation into three groups:

 Read these short descriptions of different cultural attitudes to time

Which description most closely represents attitudes to time to your

culture Try to match each description with an appropriate geographical

area

 southern Europe, the Middle East

 south – east Asia

 Schedules and punctuality aren’t as important as human relationships Time is flexible; it can be used to carry out more than one task or discussion, which may overlap If a

meeting starts late and extends beyond the scheduled finishing time, that’s usually fine if the objective is achieved

 Time is viewed as cyclical It comes and goes like the seasons, and is constantly being renewed The concept of ‘wasting’ time is irrelevant Issues are not dealt with in sequence, but considered and discussed for a period of days or weeks Decisions are not made quickly – there must be time for contemplation of the whole picture

 Time flows fast in one direction The past is finished, and the future is influenced by the present It’s best to do one thing at a time, concentrate only on that, and do it within an agreed timescale Being on time for appointments is very important Tim equals money and should not be wasted

 In your culture, how important is it to be on time for social and

business appointment? How punctual do you need to be? Write down

how many minutes you can be late for each event

 In pairs, give some tips to a group of foreign tourists who are going to

visit Vietnam and stay there in a week

 Work in groups Imagine you are a project team with responsibility for

discuss what will you do to improve, develop, and exploit your country,

town or region’s
