UNIT 5: WATCHING VIDEO TAPES

Lesson aims:

On completion of this unit, students will

 get some experiences in making an introduction and a conclusion

 learn the way how to use simple language in a presentation

 improve listening skill

 learn how to make a group presentation

CONTENTS:

 Doing homework assignment

 Ask students to do homework assignments in groups or individually

 Performing the presentation

 Warm -ups

 Make a short introduction about Steve Parker, a presenter

 Pre – Speaking Activities

 Watch the video the first time and say the order of his introduction What does the introduction include?

 Watch the video the second time and write down the questions

he made right from the beginning of a presentation What is his purpose?

 While – Speaking Activities

 Watch the video again and answer the questions with a partner

 What is the purpose of the presentation?

 What are the three main points of the presentation?

 Post – Speaking Activity

 Express your opinion about the introduction he made Is it bad

or good? What made it bad or good.?

 Warmer – up:

 Which of the following statements do you agree with?

 When you have a large vocabulary, you should use it

 Knowing and using the jargon shows you are competent

 Simple are best

 Long, elaborate sentences area sign of a goods speaker

 Pre – Speaking Activities:

 Make a short introduction about a presenter

 Watch the video for the first time and write down four rules for successful change with her explanations

 Watch the video the second time Choose the adjectives describing the language of the presenter: simple, unclear

Informal, complicated, clear

 While – Speaking Activities:

 Watch the video again and answer the questions

 What rhetorical question did Robin Drake use? Write it down

 What comparison or analogy did she use?

 What two questions did she use to check if the audience has understood?

 Post – Speaking Activity

 What is the purpose of her talk? Make a short summary about it

 In groups of three, make a seven – minute presentation Try to divide the job equally to each member of the group so that they have a chance to talk in public

 Teacher is going to score a group presentation based on the following criteria:

 The introduction:

 Introducing team members and topic

 Brief statement in point form of the main points of presentation and who will cover them in group

 The body

 Explain and elaborate the main points mentioned in the introduction

 The conclusion

 Summarize main points

 Making any suggestions
