7 Instructions for use and fit ing
7.1 Fit ing instructions
The ro f b r man facturer shal g iv e the fol owing
information in the as embly instructions:
a) detai ed fit ing instructions with fig ures or
i lustrations;
b) the v alue of the torq ue or for e where it is
neces ary to a ply a specified torq ue or for e to a
fastening d ev ice in order to fix the ro f b r to a
v ehicle;
c) a recommend tion to hav e a proximate
sp cing betwe n b r of7 0mm or that specified
b the v ehicle man facturer;
d ) mounting points on the ty pe( s) of v ehicle( s) for
which the ro f b r are intended and a warning
that ro f b r must not be used on v ehicles other
than those specified b the manufacturer
7.2 Instructions for use
The ro f b r manufacturer shal prov ide
instructions for use containing the folowing
minimum information:
a) V alue of actual ma imum loa on the ro f
b r for the v ehicle( s) for which it is ma e and,
awarning reg ard ing relev ant reg ulations
( anex mple is g iv en inAnnex C)
b) the fol owing information:
1) The load shal be as ev enly d istributed as
pos ible ov er the area of the car ier sy stem,
an the centre of g rav ity of the loa kept as low
as pos ible Nar ow and heav y load s
( forex mple, metal tubes) are to be car ied
near the fe t of the car ier sy stem Loa s
which ov erhang the ends of the car ier sy stem
shal conform to any relev ant laws or by -laws
in for e, and shal be a eq uately secured
2) Loa s shal be a equately secured using
suita le stra s or simiar tig htening d ev ices
After loa ing , recheck the security of the load
and ro f b r reg ularly throug hout the

5) The hand ling characteristic of a v ehicle wi
chang e when a car ier sy stem is fit ed an
especialy when it is loa ed ( in p rticular,
c os win sensitiv ity , hand ling on bend s, and
braking ) Driv ing tech iq ues should be altered
to al ow for these chang es, reducing spe d ,
especialy on bends, and alowing for long er
braking distances
6) To reduce fuel consumption, it is
recommended that the ro f b r be remov ed
after use
c) a warning ex laining :
1) the importance of cor ectly folowing the
instructions for fit ing an use;
2) the ne d for the fixing dev ices to be
tig htened cor ectly an checked reg ularly
during the journey ;
