Unit 9 In the shop

By the end of the unit, pupils will be able to:

• pronounce the sound of the letter O/o in isolation and in the words clocks, locks, mops and pots correctly.

• say the sound of the letter O/o and the words clocks, mops, pots, locks in a chant

• recognize the words in different situations when listening

• use the exchange “How many _?” – “ _” to ask and answer questions about the

quantity of things (from two to five)

• trace the letter O/o and complete the words m_ps, p_ts, l_cks, cl_cks.

• sing a song focusing on structure “There are _.”

Lesson 1

By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

• pronounce the sound of the letter O/o in isolation and in the words clocks, locks, pots, mops.

• listen and recognize the words clocks, locks, pots, mops

• recognize and say the words

Warm-up Goal: Warm up the class and have pupils revise the language in the previous lesson.

Time: 3 minutes

• Have pupils look at the picture parts and guess the words

• Ask What is it? Students answer the words.

Time: 3 minutes

• Say Open your book! with a TPR action Have pupils open the book, Unit 9,

In the shop Teacher opens the digital book

• Teacher sticks the card with letter “o” and say the sound

• Play the recording and have pupils listen and repeat

• Say Today we are going to learn 4 words that have the sound /g/

Step 2

Goal: Pupils will be able to listen and repeat the unit key words locks and clocks.

Recognize and say the words with flashcards

Time: 3 minutes

 Introduce the unit keywords clocks and locks with flashcards.

 On the board, the flashcard for clocks is above the flashcard for locks.

 Teacher points to the clocks, says the word and has pupils repeat the word

Do the TPR action

 Do the same with locks

 Swap the cards and have pupils guess

Step 3

Goal: Pupils will be able to listen and repeat the unit keywords mops and pots.

Recognize and say the words with flashcards

Time: 3 minutes

• Do the same procedures with step 2

Step 4

Goal: Pupil will practice more with the 4 words and revise the sound o.

Time: 5 minutes

• Play the game Slap the board with all four 4 flashcards for clocks, locks, mops and pots.

• Revise the sound o, point to the letter of each word and say Have pupils

listen and repeat

Time: 3 minutes

Have pupils listen, point and repeat / say the words

• Choose a picture on the digital book, click on the picture and have pupils listen and repeat

• Have pupils repeat the word softly, loudly in groups to motivate them

Step 2

Goal: Pupils will be able to listen and point to the pictures

Time: 4 minutes

 Have pupils listen and point to the pictures in the book

• Hold up your index finger, demonstrate the action for Point

• Say Listen and point with the TRP actions

• Say clocks then point to the clocks for demonstration

• Say other words and have pupils point to them

• Vary the speed to make the activity fun

Step 3

Goal: Pupils will be able to point and say

Time: 4 minutes

 Say locks, have pupils point to the locks and say locks.

 Do the same with different groups

 Have pupils work in pairs, 1 points and 1 says the word and does the TPR Game Who is faster game

Goal: Pupils will be able to produce the unit words

Time: 5 minutes

• Divide class into 4 teams

• Show the slides

• Have pupils take turn to say the word from the 1st to the last pupil

• Have pupils in the team say the word in chorus when all members have finished

• The quicker the winner.

Wrap-up Repeat the words with rhythm and say goodbye

Lesson 2

By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

 say the sound of the letter O/o, the words clocks, locks, mops, pots and the structure There are in a chant.

 listen, recognize the words and tick the correct boxes

 trace the letter O/o and complete the words m_ps, cl_cks, l_cks, p_ts.

Goal: Warm up and revise the unit keywords

Time: 5 minutes

• Show the flashcard for clocks to a pupil

• The pupil does the TPR action for the word Have other pupils guess the word

• After guessing the word, have the whole class repeat the word in chorus

• Do the same with other words

Listen and chant Step 1

Goal: Pupils will be able to read the chant lyrics.

Time: 3 minutes

 Have pupils read the chant lyrics in chorus, then in group

Step 2 Goal: Pupils will be able to listen, chant and clap along

Time: 3 minutes

Play the recording, have pupils listen and clap along

Play the recording, have pupils listen, clap and chant along

• Round 1 Have pupils listen and clap along

• Round 2 Have pupils listen and do the TPR actions with teacher

• Round 3 Have pupils listen and do the actions and chant along

• Repeat round 3 several times

Step 3 Goal: Pupils will be able to chant and clap along in pairs

Time: 3 minutes

 Have pupils in pairs chant along

Listen and tick Step 1

Goal: Pupils will be able to listen and choose the correct pictures.

Time: 5 minutes

• Say Listen and tick with the TPR actions

• Play the recording and demonstrate the example

• Play the recording and have pupils do the task

Step 2 Goal: Check Time: 3 minutes

• Play the recording and have pupils say the answer

• Play the recording again and have pupils repeat then give correct

answer

Time: 5 minutes

Charades

• Have pupils play the game Charades in groups

• Pupils choose a flashcard and do action The others will guess

the word and chant

Wrap-up Repeat the words with rhythm and say goodbye

By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

- introduce a thing with the structure How many ?

- sing along the unit song

Warm-up Goal: Warm up and revise the Unit keywords

Time: 3 minutes

Practice the chant using TPR

• Have pupils listen and do the TPR actions with teacher

• If possible, change the words of the chant by using flashcard and pupils chant along the new lyrics when they see the flashcard Listen and repeat Step 1

Goal: Introduce the sound and the meaning of the structure How

many _?– “ _”.

Time: 5 minutes

Introduce the structure and have pupils listen many times

Hold up a flash card for clocks and ask How many clocks? Count 1, 2 and say 2

Stick the flashcard for clocks on the board

Do the same with other words and have pupils answer for the question

How many…?

Play the recording, and have pupils listen and repeat

Step 2 Goal: Pupils will be able to repeat the structure How many _? - Time: 3 minutes

Have pupils open the book, listen and repeat in chorus, group and in pairs

Find the missing number Goal: Pupils will be able to say numbers Time: 1 minute

Have pupils look at the slide and say the missing numbers

Step 2

Goal: Practice the exchange How many _?

Time: 5 minutes

Have pupils say the exchange: How many ? - _ in chorus Have pupils choose one flashcard Teacher asks: How many ?

Pupil gives the answer -

After that, ask the whole class if it is Yes or No

Have the whole class repeat that sentence in chorus

Step 3 Goal: Pupils will be able to point, ask and answer the whole sentence Time: 3 minutes

Demonstrate the activity, point, ask and answer Have pupils do it in

pairs

If possible, have pupils draw a draft picture of objects then ask their

friends, using the structure How many….

Have pupils read the song lyrics in chorus then in groups.

Step 2 Goal: Pupils will be able to sing a long the song.

Time: 3 minutes

Have pupils listen and sing a long the song in chorus then in groups

Step 3 Goal: Pupils will be able to sing the song with TPR

Time: 3 minutes

Have groups create their own TPR for the song then present

Finish the song with the TRP for high five and fist bump

Game Goal: Revise the structure, the words in a game

Time: 5 minutes

• Play the game in groups

• Write on board the number from 1 to 10

• Show pupils pictures/slides of different objects

• Then hide the pictures

• Ask How many…?

• Have 1 pupil of each group runs to the board and slap to the number

• For the next question, have pupil say it with the support of teacher

Wrap-up Repeat the words with rhythm and say goodbye
