Lesson guide Unit 11 At the bus stop

By the end of the unit, pupils will be able to:

- pronounce the sound of the letter U/u in isolation and in the words sun, truck, bus and running

correctly

- say the sound of the letter U/u and the words sun, truck, bus, running in a chant

- recognize the words in different situations when listening

- use “ _’s running.” to talk about what someone is doing at the moment

- trace the letter U/u and complete the words s n, tr ck, b s, r nning

- sing a song with the structures “It’s a .” and “The boy is .”

Lesson 1

By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

- pronounce the sound of the letter U/u in isolation and in the words sun, truck, bus and running

correctly

- listen and recognize the words sun, truck, bus, running in a chant

- recognize and say the words in different situations when listening

Warm-up Goal: Revise the previous unit vocabulary: mouse, mother, mango,

monkey

Time: 5 minutes

• Show each slide with a part of the picture

• Pupil says the word

• Do TPR with each word respectively.

Listen and repeat Step 1

Goal: Listen and repeat the sound u and introduce the context

Time: 3 minutes

• Say Open your book! with a TPR action Have pupils open the

book, Unit 11 At the bus stop Teacher opens the digital book

• Stick the card with letter u and say the sound.

• Play the recording or say and have pupils listen and repeat in chorus then in groups

• Say Today we will learn four words having the sound u.

• Introduce the context of the picture by eliciting from pupils

Step 2

Goals: Pupils will be able to listen and repeat the unit keywords bus and

running.

Recognize and say the words with flashcards

Time: 3 minutes

• Show each slide with two words: bus, running

• Do TPR with each word respectively

Note: Ask pupils to listen, repeat and do actions 3 times

Step 3

Goals: Pupils will be able to listen and repeat the unit keywords truck

and sun.

Recognize and say the words with flashcards

Time: 3 minutes

 Do the same with step 2

Step 4

Goal: Pupils will be able to practice listen and repeat again the sound u

and all four words

Time: 3 minutes

 Have pupils listen and repeat the sound u and the words.

 Pupils repeat in chorus, groups

Goal: Pupils will be able to listen and repeat the words

Time: 3 minutes

 Have pupils listen and repeat the words once again but vary the speed to have fun

Step 2

Goal: Pupils will be able to listen and point to the pictures

Time: 3 minutes

 Have pupils listen and point to the pictures in the book

 Teacher can ask some pupils to read then others point

Goal: Pupils will be able to point and say to the pictures.

Time: 5 minutes

 Point to the word truck and say truck.

 Point to other words and have pupils say

 Have pupils work in pairs, 1 points and the other says

Goal: Pupils will be able to recognize the unit words through pictures,

Time: 5 minutes

• Show the slides to pupils

• Tell the pupils that when they see a picture, they have to say; when they see a word, they have to act

• The faster the winner

Wrap-up  Repeat the words with rhythm and say goodbye

Lesson 2

By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

- say the sound of the letter U/u, the words sun, truck, bus, running and the structures ”Look at the .”, ”The _ is running/ moving.” in a chant.

- listen, recognize the words and tick the correct boxes

- trace the letter U/u and complete the words b s, tr ck, s n, r nning

Goal: Warm up and revise the unit keywords

Time: 5 minutes

• Show the flashcard for each word to a pupil

• The pupil does the TPR action for the word Have other pupils guess the word

• After guessing the word, have the whole class repeat the word in

chorus

Listen and chant Step 1

Goal: Pupils will be able to read the chant lyrics Time: 5 minutes

 Have pupils read the chant lyrics in chorus, then in groups

Step 2 Goal: Pupils will be able to listen, chant and clap along

Time: 3 minutes

 Play the recording, have pupils listen and clap along

 Play the recording, have pupils listen, clap and chant along + Round 1 Have pupils listen and clap along

+ Round 2 Have pupils listen and do the TPR actions with teacher + Round 3 Have pupils listen and do the actions and chant along + Repeat round 3 several times

Step 3 Goal: Pupils will be able to chant and clap along in pairs

Time: 3 minutes

 Have pupils chant along in pairs

Listen and tick Step 1

Goal: Pupils will be able to listen and choose the correct pictures.

Time: 5 minutes

• Say Listen and tick with the TPR actions

• Play the recording and demonstrate the example

• Play the recording and have pupils do the task

Step 2 Goal: Check Time: 3 minutes

• Play the recording and have pupils say the answer

• Play the recording again and have pupils repeat then give correct answer

Look and trace Goal: Pupils will be able to trace the letter

Time: 5 minutes

• Have pupils write the word by air tracing and say the word

• Demonstrate how to trace the word and have pupils do the task.

Goal: Revise the words and chant

Time: 5 minutes

• Have pupils play the game Whisper in groups

• Stand in the line

• One pupil in each group chooses a card with “The bus is running” and whispers to a pupil behind

• The last student in the line goes to the board, says the sentence

and does action

Wrap-up • Repeat the words with rhythm and say goodbye

Lesson 3

By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

- listen and repeat the sentences ”He’s running.”, ”She’s running.”

- say what each of the pupils (in the pictures) is doing, using ” ’s running.”

- sing a song with the structures ”It’s a .” and ”The boy is .”

Warm-up Goal: Warm up and revise the chant

Time: 3 minutes

• Play the chant

• Have pupils listen and chant 2-3 times

Listen and repeat Step 1

Goal: Pupils will be able to listen to the structure He/She’s

Time: 5 minutes

• Introduce the structure and have pupils listen and repeat

• Hold up a flashcard for a boy and stick the flashcard on the board

• Say ”He’s running”

• Do the same with a flashcard for a girl

• Play the recording, and have pupils listen and repeat

Step 2

Goal: Pupils will be able to recognize and repeat the structure “He’s

running/ She’s running.

Time: 3 minutes

• Have pupils open the book, listen and repeat.

Goal: Practice the structure in the Let’s talk activity.

Time: 3 minutes

• Make a model sentence

• Have pupils say the sentence in chorus

• Have pupils say the sentences in Let’s talk activity in groups of 4.

Step 2

Goal: Practice more freely the structure “” ’s running.”

Time: 5 minutes

• Have pupils choose one flashcard and say the structure ” ’s

• After that, ask the whole class if it is Yes or No

• Have the whole class repeat that sentence in chorus

Goal: Pupils will be able to read the song lyrics

Time: 3 minutes

• Have pupils read the song lyrics in chorus then in groups.

Step 2:

Goal: Pupils will be able to sing a long the song.

Time: 3 minutes

• Have pupils listen and sing a long the song in chorus then in groups

Step 3 Goal: Pupils will be able to sing the song with TPR

Time: 3 minutes

• Have groups create their own TPR for the song then present

• Finish the song with the TRP for High five and fist bump

Goal: Review the unit keywords, the song and the chant

Time: 5 minutes

Revise the words and play the game

• Play the game in groups

• Group 1, 2, 3 4

• Choose the card one by one in each group and each member has

to do with TPR action and the representative will say “ _’s running” “That’s a ”

• The team with the highest points is the winner

Wrap-up • Repeat the words with rhythm and say goodbye
