UNIT 8: FILMS

Lesson 1: Getting started

I OBJECTIVES:

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- use the l exical items related to the topic Films;

- use the adjectives describing films: comedy,horror, scary, silly, funny

- extend and practice vocabulary related to the topic “Films” through the

dialogue between Mark and Mi about films.

1 Knowledge:

* Vocab: vocabulary related to films

* Grammar: Suggestion, connectors: although.

2 Competences:

- Using language to ask and answer about films

- Listening and reading to choose the correct answer to each question.

- Communication, self-learning capability, creative capacity, ability to use of language……

3 Qualities:

- have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively

participate in all classroom activities.

- love films

III PROCEDURES:

1.Warm-up (5’)

* Aim: - activate students’ knowledge on the topic of the unit.

- set the context for the listening and reading part.

* Content: Game: brainstorming (about films)

* Products: Ss write words exactly on the board.

- Elicit any information ss know about films by asking

about types of film they know, the latest films they

have seen , their favorite films and film stars

- Teacher gets feedback

* Brainstorming:

- Use the pictures in textbook to introduce the new

lesson

2 Presentation (5’)

* Aim: Enrich students’ vocabulary to talk about films.

* Content: Vocabulary about films

* Products: Read and understand the meaning of words

Pre teach vocabulary

- Teacher use different techniques to teach vocab

(pictures, situation, realia)

- Follow the seven steps of teaching vocab

- Repeat in chorus and individually

- Copy all the words

* Checking vocab: < Matching>

* Vocabulary

3 Practice (26’)

* Aims:

- revise / introduce the names of films, and some adjectives related to films and film activities

- Distinguish between adjectives and nouns

- Practise asking and answering by using some of the adjectives

* Content:

- Listen and read

- Read and choose the correct answer

- Choose the correct word or phrase to complete each of the following sentences

- Complete the sentences, ask and answer a type of film

* Products:

Students read vocabularies exactly aloud

Students do exercises exactly

Task 1: (5’) T-Ss

- Teacher asks students to listen and

read.

Teacher calls some students to read the

new words again.

Task 2: (7’) T-Ss, Ss-Ss

- Teacher asks students to read the

conversation and choose the best

answer.

- Let ss work in pairs and do the task

Task 3: (7’)T - Ss, Ss - Ss

-Teacher asks students to work in group and

use the words in bracket to put into the blank

-Students work in group and do the task

-Teacher calls some groups to share their

answers with the whole class

-Teacher gives feedback and corrections (if

necessary)

-Teacher explains which nouns/ adjectives go

with each blank to make meaningful sentence

Task 3: Choose the correct word or phrase *Answer key:

Task 4(7’)T-Ss, Ss-Ss

-Teacher asks students to work independently

and put a suitable word in each blank

-Teacher allows students to share their answers

* Aim: To give students a chance to apply what they have learnt.

- Teacher asks some pairs to talk

before the class.

5 Homework (2’)

- T reminds Ss to do homework and

prepare the new lesson.

- Learn by heart all the new words

- Do the exercises into notebooks

- Find adjectives about films

- Prepare Lesson 2 (A closer look 1).
