Period 17 STORY TIME

Part 1: Listen and read along

I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- consolidate the sound of the letters Nn, Oo, Pp, Qq and the corresponding words

- learn and practice reading skills

II.Vocabulary: words from unit 1 to unit 4

III Methods: Teacher-whole class, groups, individuals.

IV Teaching aids: CD, Phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the song

V Organization:

VI Procedures

* Warm up (5’): Slap the board

- Show the picture and involve Ss in the game

- Run through them then say out the rule

- Have Ss of 2 teams go to the board to complete this

activity

- When Ss finish, have Ss check their answers

- Give them points and praise the winner

- T gives feedback

* Presentation and Practice:

1 Listen Read along(10’):

- T encourages Ss point to the picture and say out the words

- Write the following words on the bb: queen, octopus,

parrot, nut, nest

- Ask Ss to read out the words

- Invite guesses about what they think the story is about Do

not dismiss any ideas

- Ask Ss to look at the book

- Set the scene by asking some question about what they can

see in the picture

- T plays the CD Have Ss listen and point to the story

- Ask Ss follow the story in their books

- Play the CD again pausing for Ss to repeat chorally

- Have Ss work in pairs One reads while the other one

checks and then they swap roles

- T points and says the sight words Have Ss listen and

repeat

- Time permitting Have some Ss read them aloud

=> Activity: Drawing

- Ask some Ss to say out the most interesting character they

think about

- Let Ss to draw it and say why they like it most

- Listen and give comment

2 Sing a song(p72)-(10’):

- After draw a character, call some Ss to show their picture

on the bb

- Ask the whole class to sing the song about these

* Production(10’): Fill in the blank

- Put the phonics cards on the board

- Ask Ss to go to the bb and write the missing words

- Check and correct mistakes

- Remember to correct Ss’ pronunciation throughout the

lesson

* Homework: Do exercise in the Activity book

Period 18 STORY TIME

Part 2: Choose and colour

I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- consolidate the sound of the letters Nn, Oo, Pp, Qq and the corresponding words

- learn and practice reading skills

II.Vocabulary: words from unit 1 to unit 4

III Methods: Teacher-whole class, groups, individuals.

IV Teaching aids: CD, Phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the song

V Organization:

VI Procedures

* Warm up (5’): Revision

- Ask Ss to listen the Vietnamese words and then change

them into the English words immediately

- Listen and check their answers

- Link to the new lesson

* Presentation and Practice:

1 Choose and colour(10’):

- Point to and elicit the animals

- Ask Ss to say which animal the octopus has for the

queen

- Listen and check their answer

- Ask Ss to colour that animal and explain that they can

use the colour they like

- Go around classroom if they need any help

2 Extra activity (10’): Act out

- Read the sentences in the story

- Invite Ss to mime the key words from the story

- Call some Ss to come to in front of the classroom and

act out the story

- Encourage them to have funs as they perform

- Time permitting, T assigns the role of the “narrator”

* Production(10’): Matching

- Put the phonics cards and pictures on the board

- Run through them and say out the rule

- Divide class into 2 groups and play

- Ask Ss to go to the bb and match the pictures with the

corresponding words

- Check and correct mistakes

- Remember to correct Ss’ pronunciation

* Homework: Do exercise in the Activity book

* Matching

*Evaluation:
