• Vết cắt

– Chiều dài lớn hơn độ sâu vết thương

– Không phản ánh đặc điểm của hung khí

– Không thể đánh giá lực gây nên thương tích – Bờ mép vết thương gọn, không có xây sát da – Không có cầu nối tổ chức

– Có thể do tai nạn rủi ro

– Vết thương lớn, há miệng do các vật có trọng lượng lớn như xẻng, cuốc, dao dựa, mã tấu chân vịt tàu thủy…

elongating track and skin wound

– Wedge shaped wound: point of knife used as fulcrum with

knife pulled toward cutting edge; track narrow at deepest

point, widest superficially

– Weapon twisted when inserted or withdrawn causing irregular edges

• Suicide

– Often multiple stab wounds concentrated in

area accessible to victim, many shallow

• Tool marks

– Stab wounds in bone or cartilage may have tool marks from blade

Defense and Hesitation Wounds

• Defense

– Often on fingers, hands, forearms of victim

acquired in attempt to ward off blows or to grab weapon

• Hesitation

– Shallow wounds made before deeper fatal

wounds in a suicide, often parallel or close to fatal wounds
