Lesson 2: A closer look 1

I Objectives

By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to

- Use the lexical items related to subjects and activities at school

- Pronounce correctly the sounds and in isolation and in context

1 Knowledge: know and use

Vovabulary:Use the combinations: to study, to have, to do, to play

Pronunciation: /əʊ/ and / ʌ / sounds

2 Skill: Develop speaking, listening skills.

3 Attitude: Student understand about topic: My new school

4 Competence: Develop such competences as: communication, self-study,

problem-solving & creativity

-Teacher:Textbook, workbook, teaching plan, tape and recorder

III Procedures

T’s & Ss’ activities

Activity 1 Warm up (4’)

Step1:T: have sts play a game “

Miming”

- Now I will whisper something into your

ear, you have to mine that action for your

friends to guess what you are doing

- Who guesses correctly will have a

chance to mine next

- Ss: work in teams of 2 in 5 minutes

Step2: Ss do the task.

Step 3: 5 Ss in each team will act in the

front of the class The others guess

Step 4 T gives comments and give points

for each team

the groups

-Work in groups of 4

-Time: 5 minutes

Step 2 Ss do the task T goes around the

class to provide help

Step 3:Ss in each group write the answers

on the board

Step 4 T: check the answers Explain to

them which words go with each verb

Task 3 Put one of these words in each

blank

Step 1 T: Ask sts to read the phrase in

part 2 again and then tell sts to do ex 3

Step 1: T gives the task to ss:

-Listen to the teacher’s pronunciation of

two words judo and Monday and pay

attention the vowel sounds /əʊ/ and / ʌ /

in each word and present how to

pronounce these sounds correctly; in

pairs, in 2 minutes

Step 2 Ss do the task T goes around the

class to provide help

- Ss observe the T’s lip positions for

these two sounds

Step 3: 10 Ss practise the sound /əʊ/

and / ʌ/

Step 4: T corrects their pronunciation

- Play the recording and ask sts to listen

and repeat (play as many time as

necessary)

Task 5 Listen to the words and put them

into two groups

Step 1: Ask sts to have a look at the

words in part 5 Listen to the words and

put them into two groups

- T plays the recording twice

- Ss work individually in 2 minutes
