LESSON 5: SKILLS 1

I.Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

1.Knowledge: Know

- Use the lexical items related to the topic “my new school”

- Read for specific information about the three schools PLC SYDNEY,

VINABRITA and AN LAC schools and read e-mail and web pages

- Talk about school activities, subject and what Ss do at school

- Do the exercises relating to the reading

2 Skills: Drill reading and speaking mainly.

3 Attitude: To teach SS to be hard working, love their school and friends

4 Competences: develop such competences as: teamwork, communication,

self-study

II Preparation:

T: Teaching plan, book and exercise book,…….

Ss: Prepare the lesson in advanced.

III Procedures

Teacher and students’ activities

Activity 1:Warm- up(5’)

Aims: - To get Ss involve in the

lesson

- To introduce the lesson

Step 1:

T: Hi, class Now I want you to look

at the picture of a school and describe

it You will work in groups and give

out the description of the school in

three minutes

+Where is the school?

+Is it big or small?

+How many rooms are there?

+ What is there ?

Content

- The school is in the country

- It is big

- It has many classrooms

- The Ss here wear uniforms

Step 2: Ss do the task T goes around

the class to provide help

Step 3: Ss present before the class.

Step 4: T: confirms, give comments,

lead to the content of the lesson

Activity 2: Presentation(15’)

Aims: Know where the schools are

and what Ss there study

Step 1:- T: Shows the picture of PLC

Sydney and ask Ss to observe and

then tell the class some information

about the school Explains the word

“boarding school” in three minutes

+ Ss’study

+ Subjects at this school

+ Who can learn at this school?

+ What do Ss do at school?

+ How many classes?

+ How many Ss?

+ Where is it?

+ What are there in the school?

+ How is the school?

Step 2: Ss do the task by getting

information from the passage

- Show the picture about a school in

the mountainous area

Step 3: Observe the picture and tell

some information about the school T

goes around the class to provide help

Step 4: T Confirms and gives some

new words

Activity 3 Practice (15’)

Aims: - To practice reading and

getting information

Step 1:

-T asks Ss to read the three passages

quickly and check their ideas

T set a strict time limit to ensure Ss

read quickly for information

- There is a library, a school garden, a computer room, an English – learning room……

- Boarding school: Sts study and live at

school They only go home on weekends

- oversea: using a picture about other

countries

- Kindergarten: Picture on screen.

- 7 classes

Step 2:

- Ss read the passages again Then

find the words in the passages

-T Help them to give the meaning of

the words, or explanations, or

examples, Vietnamese equivalence

Tell them to pay attention to the

context on the words

T Ask Ss to find out the sentence in

the passages using these words- It is a

boarding school

- The school is surrounded by

mountains and green fields

- T Set a longer time limit for Ss to

reread the text and find the words to

finish the sentences, ask Ss to note

where they found the information that

helped them complete the sentences

Step 3:

Ss compare the answers before

discussing them as a class Ss read in

chorus once Then read aloud to the

class

Step 4: T Check their pronunciation

and intonation

Activity 4: Production (7’)

SPEAKING

Aims: To use target language in a

meaningful context

Step 1:

- T asks Ss to refer back to the three

schools Give some background of

the school Which school (among the

three above) would you like to go to ?

Why?

- Ss speak about the school that they

would like to

Ss work in groups of 4or 5,

Step 2:

- Ss complete the table in their

notebooks discuss their answers to the

questions and give reasons

Step 3: Ss talk to the class, then the

class give their comments on their

friends’ content, pronunciation,

fluency, language (grammar, use of

words…) body language, etc

- Discuss any common errors and

provide further practice if necessary

Step 4: T gives comments

Consolidation (2’)

- Ss: retell the three passages

- T: Have Ss read the new words

again

Homework (1’)

- Ss: Rewrite the information about

the school

- Preparation: Skills 2
