A number of students head overseas full of honest enthusiasm and a sincere zeal to become proficient in English It is no surprise then that as soon as students get off the plane, they stop speaking their mother tongue and do everything they can to master the new language

It only takes a few months however before the vast majority of students realize they are waging a losing battle to overcome the odds of adapting to the new culture Everything seems out of place ; the food is awful; no native speakers seem to have any interest in becoming friends, and worst

of all, they are afflicted with extreme loneliness This is often referred to as culture shock instead of enjoying their experience of studying overseas, students get depressed and some even decide to call it quits and come home

There are several ways we can help students get through this difficult process of adapting to their new environment Raising awareness of culture shock and the fact that it affects everyone is a good start, and it also needs to be emphasized that it is just a phase will that ultimately pass Students often cope better when they have access to people with similar backgrounds, so students should be encouraged to hang out with people from their own country at least some of the time Finally, it is essential that students keep in regular contact with friends and family back home, so that when they feel down they will always have somebody to turn to

In short, while studying abroad is often much tougher than expected, once students know that they always have someone to turn to, they will have a much better chance of making their time abroad more of an enjoyable, albeit challenging, experience

Most people would say life is improving, except those in Africa or living in the throes of

religious conflicts But at the same time, life is becoming ever more stressful, leading to tens of thousands of suicides each year It is high time that we pinpointed the causes and came up with some solutions

First of all, work is a main source of stress for most people With the unemployment rate running high in even the most affluent countries, job security is becoming less and less guaranteed To keep their jobs, people are compelled to work longer hours and achieve better performances Getting ahead in the workplace becomes our priority, to the extent that we think about it all the time and can never really relax or take a break Even for those with secure jobs, promotions and better salaries are irresistible , forever coaxing them to try their uttermost.

Then, the relationship with a fellow human being also adds to one's stress People are becoming more isolated nowadays, not only from strangers but even from close relatives and friends Everyone is engrossed in his or her own affair with no energy for or interest in what happens to other people Real communication between people is on the decline As a result,

emotions get bottled up People are more linked by economic interests than emotional needs Genuine friendship becomes hard to find; even marriages are purely based on financial considerations It seems that we face the world alone every day No wonder people tend to feel the whole weight of the world on their shoulders

In brief, while the right amount of pressure is often beneficial, the stress experienced by most people is detrimental both physically and mentally Work and material wealth are far overrated and need to be put into their proper perspective In addition, people need to improve their relationship with others around them, having a colleague, a loved one, or a total stranger

by really communicating with and caring for each other

The use of technology is increasing rapidly in the modern world Growing technological influence can even be seen in the classroom The argument that technology will completely replace the teacher in the classroom is a subject that is both supported and refuted by many Both sides of this argument will be analyzed before a reasoned conclusion is drawn

Firstly, it is easy to see the progressive rate at which technology is able to mimic the teaching abilities of human beings For example, several iPhone applications are able to hold the attention of young children for hours at a time, while concurrently teaching them things Thus, it is clear that on a small scale, machines can act as effective teachers The possibility for

a robotic teacher in the future can therefore be seen

However, on the other side of this argument, it must be remembered that a teacher powered by artificial intelligence would have little to no control over its students For example,

it is commonly understood that children require the watchful eye of a teacher to ensure that they

are indeed completing their class work and not fooling around during class time Unfortunately,

this is something that a robotic teacher simply cannot provide Thus, this makes it clear why the

argument that technology will never completely replace the teacher in the classroom could also

be possible

In summary, both sides of the argument regarding the possibility of a technologically

driven classroom have strong support However, after analyzing the two camps it is clear that

the idea of having a class run entirely by a machine is unlikely to materialize anytime soon As

such, it is predicted that the plausibility of technology-based classroom teachers will remain

weak

Admittedly , fossil fuels as the main sources make human beings live more effectively and efficiently A large amount of energy in fossil fuels is applied to the industrial production and it seems that the process of making energy from fossil fuels is employed by most countries Nonetheless, traditional resources will dry up in a foreseeable future Human beings must find an alternative way to continue civilization
