information about music

2 Skill: Guessing meaning in context, scanning for specific information

WARM UP (5 minutes)

- Let students find some music they have know

- Write kinds of music on board

- Lead Ss to the unit

BEFORE YOU READ (7 minutes)

- Ask Ss about the instruments of music in the

pictures in Vietnamese

- Ask students work in pairs to read aloud the types of

music in the first column and to match with its

description in the second column

- Go around and help if necessary

- Ask students to give the answers

- Ask Ss to read them loudly and correct pronunciation

if necessary

- Find some music they have ever know freely

Eg: Some music: Pop, Jazz, rock ,classical music

- Notice teacher introduce and guide

- Reply freely

- Work in pairs to discuss and match

WHILE YOU READ (23 minutes)

- Ask students to look through the passage and read in

- Ask some groups to stand up to practice speaking

- Instruct Ss to practice task 3 through the example

Eg: + Both B and C like classical music They like it

+ B likes classical music but C prefers jazz.

- Ask students to tell the classmates about what they

have found out about their partners

student to write their writing on board

- Check the profile on board and correct it

Key:

Van Cao was born on Nov 15th 1923 in Nam Dinh, from

a family of poor workers He started to compose music

when he was very young He wrote the first song in

1939 and it quickly became famous Tien Quan Ca

(National Anthem) in 1944 He was not only famous for

songs but also famous for poems and paintings He died

on 10th July in 1995 He is known as a very talented

- Understand how to use “to +infinitive” correctly to express purpose

- Make Wh-questions appropriately

2 Skills: - Pronounce the sounds: /s/-/z/

- Ask students to look at the words and sentences in

the part then listen to the CD and repeat twice

- Let Ss practice themselves for 2 minutes

- Call on 3 - 4 students to speak out some of the

sentences

- Correct pronunciation for the students

- Work in groups to do it

- Write as quickly as they can

- Look at board and listen to teacher

- Repeat the words and sentences in chorus

- Practice pronunciation in pairs

GRAMMAR (25 minutes)

1 “to + infinitive to express purposes

- Write 2 sentences on the board and underline the “to+

infinitive”

+ She gets up early to cook breakfast for her family

+ I listen to classical music to feel relaxed

- Ask students to comment on the use of “to+ infinitive” in

these examples

- Help students understand that the use of “to+ infinitive” is

to express purposes, it usually stands at the beginning or at

the end of sentences

-Ask 3 - 5 students to give some similar examples

- Introduce exercises to the students

Exercise 1:

- Instruct Ss how to do the exercise
