By the end of the lesson, students will be able to write a story about a typhoon, using the pictures and word cues given

B Teaching aids : Poster, pictures

C Content :

I Pre–writing:

1.Warm up– : Hang man

TYPHOON (7 letters)

2.Pre teach vocabulary :

Behave (v)c xö sù, øng xö xö sù, øng xö (tran)

shelter (n) chæ tró ngô (expl)

All of sudden (syn.) = sudden

scared of (adj) sî (syn)

strangely (adv)mét c¸ch kú l¹ (tran)

Guide Ss to read vocabulary

3.Telling the story:

Show 6 pictures on the board and ask Ss some questions to elicit the story

*Picture 1: Who is this ? It’s Lan

Where is she? She is outside/ in the garden

What’s she doing? She’s playing with her dog, Skippy

 Lan was outside playing with her dog, Skippy

*Picture 2: How is the dog? She looks strange

Does she behave strangely? Yes

 All of the sudden, the dog behaved strangely She kept running around in circles

*Picture 3: What is on T.V.? The weather forecast

What does Lan’s mother say? She tells Lan she has just heard on T.V that there is a typhoon coming

 Lan Ran home with her dog to tell her mother what Skippy was doing Her mother told Lan that she heard on T.V that there was a typhoon coming

*Picture 4 : What does Mrs Quyen do? She gathers her family and asks them to find shelter in the house

 Mrs Quyen gathered her family and told them to find shelter in the

house

*Picture 5: What is the weather like now? It’s very dark It has strong wind and heavy rain

 Suddenly, the sky became very dark The storm came with strong wind and heavy rain

*Picture 6: What is the weather like now? It’s fine now

How are they now? They all are happy

 The storm finished soon and everyone was glad

II While writing:

Students write the story based on the cues

*Suggestion ideas:

It was a beautiful day The sun was shining, the sky was blue, and the weather was perfect Lan was outside playing with her dog, Skippy All of the sudden, the dog began behaving strangely She kept running around in

circles Lan run home with the dog to tell her mother, Mrs Quyen what Skippy was

III Postwriting:

a Students share their writings and correct for each other

b Asking some students to read out their writing

c Correcting mistakes (teacher−whole class)

IV Homework :

- Complete writings

- Revise the vocabulary and grammatical structures in unit 8 and unit 9 to prepare for a written test
