Trang 7With a few ex e tion , a ronautical grou d l g tin is desig ed for series circ it tec nolog
o eratin with a con tant c r ent an a maximum input voltage of 5 0 0 V a.c rms, in lu in
toleran es The input voltage to the series circ it is con tantly adju ted by the con tant
c r ent reg lator to maintain the series circ it c r ent ir esp ctive of the variation in the lo d
The pro erties an c aracteristic of the con tant c r ent reg lators are provided in
IEC 618 2 Due to the stru ture of the series circ it, i.e a series con ection of al lo d , the
u ual protective devices f or p rson el protection of an IT, TT or TN network can ot b
a pl ed
Aeronautical grou d l g tin is def i ed as an l g t provided as an aid to air navigation an as
s c is s bject to sp cif i req irements with resp ct to its resi en e, avai a i ty, an
service bi ty levels Therefore, in ulation f aults in the series circ it are often tolerated, an
do not le d to the automatic dis on ection of the electrical s p ly to the series circ it
In view of the a ove IEC 618 1 states that no work of an kin is normal y p rmit ed on lve
series circ its without first con u tin a s ita le an s f ficient Ris As es ment an u in
a pro riate protective eq ipment ac ordin to IEC 618 1
The electrical c aracteristic of the con tant c r ent series circ its are often conf used with
those of IT, TT or TN network , i.e con tant input voltage, eq ipment con ected in p ral el,
an a lo d-de en ent c r ent In practice, it is not alway e s to as ig rated voltages
cor ectly to in ivid al comp nents of the series circ it or to determine p s ible tou h
voltages In a con tant c r ent series circ its, the rated voltage of the eq ipment in the series
circ it an the maximum tou h voltage feq ently ex e d the normal main input voltage
In a series circ it in tal ation the series circ it input voltage is divided in pro ortion to the
internal resistan es of the variou lo d The rated voltage, i.e the voltage b twe n the input
l nes of the eq ipment, is defined by the series circ it c r ent that flows throu h the
eq ipment an its input imp dan e Sin e input imp dan e de en s on the eq ipment desig
an the series circ it c r ent is con tant, the input voltage remain the same f or e c item of
eq ipment As a res lt of the provision of c r ent control in the series circ it the series circ it
input voltage is lo d-de en ent an cor esp n s to the s m of al p rtial voltages in the
series circ it
This is dif ferent to determinin the maximum p s ible tou h voltage to e rth in a series
circ it Sin e one or more e rth f aults, of varyin resistan e to e rth, mayb present, the
tou h voltage to e rth may as ume any value up to the maximum series circ it input voltage
de en in on the location of the e rth fault an the eq ipment in tal ed in the series circ it
Therefore when determinin the dielectric stren th again t e rth p tential it is u ual to take
the maximum series circ it input voltage Su h p c l arities of the series circ it have b en
taken into ac ou t in the req irements for lamp s stems in this stan ard
Sin e there are only a f ew ef fective safety fe tures avaia le for p rson el protection in series
circ it tec nolog the protective me s re “Saf ety extra low voltage (SELV) an “Protective
extra low voltage (PELV) is a pl ed in this stan ard for the s p ly of lamp s stems This
me s re is common practice an can resort to the a pl cation of wel -k own an ac e ted
methodology The introd ction of SELV/PELV in this typ of a pl cation has b en made
p s ible by the introd ction of new i uminant tec nology that has lower p wer req irements
