1.1 Purpose (based on the alternative proposal)
The purposes of this document are as noted hereunder:
a) ensure that the precast reinforced concrete piles delivered tothe Site are in accordance with the approved requirementsb) ensure that the piles are driven to the specified penetration, inthe correct position(s) as shown on the approved drawings, inaccordance with the requirements of Section 5.2 of theSpecification
c) ensure that the precast reinforced concrete piling worksconform to the approved Management System and QualityControl Plan
b) Contract Documents, Specifications: Technical SpecificationSection 5.4 “Measurement and Payment”;
1.3 Referred Drawings
The following drawings are applicable to the contents of thisdocument:
a) Contractor’s Drawing No CO-P-401
b) Contractor’s Drawings No.’s CO-P-402 to CO-P-419 (inclusive)detailing the R.C Pile Location plan
This scope of works detailed hereinafter covers the steps to be takenwhen preparing the Site area, setting out the pile location, driving thepiles to the required elevation in the position(s) shown on the approveddrawings
Trang 6Table 2.1 hereinafter on page 4 outlines the estimated quantities ofworks associated with the Reinforced Concrete Piling Works:
Table 2.1 Estimated Quantities of Works
The length calculated for pile driving shall be measured from the surfacelevel from which the pile is driven, as approved by the Engineer, to thepile tip in accordance with Section 5 of Division B of Volume 2 of theContract “Specifications”
3 M ETHODOLOGY
Two methods of driving will be utilised in the Piling Works; i) DieselHammer as stated in the Specification, and ii) Static Load as required bythe Department of Construction (DOC) To avoid any disturbance and
Trang 7damage to residential and building structures located close to the pilinglocation static load will be implemented For other areas whereneighbouring structures are located further away from the piling location
or where no neighbouring structures exist, diesel hammer will be used. The specific locations where static load and diesel hammer will be
carried out are shown in the Location Map contained within Appendix
No 7 hereto.
3.1 Flowchart
The flowchart detailed hereinafter on page 5 shows the sequence ofworks for the reinforced concrete piling works associated with theProject:

3.2 Delivery and Storage
The piles will be fabricated in accordance with the latestContractor’s Drawing No CO-P-401 by an approved supplier
The maximum allowable length of the piles is limited 15 metres, hence, the piles shall be divided into two segments The length ofthe segments for each required pile length is shown hereunder inTable 3.2

Piles shall not be laid directly on the ground but shall be supported
by timber blocks spaced at such dimensions that the flexure stressimposed on the piles during storage will be minimised
3.3 Hammer Capacity
The hammer type / capacity shall be selected in accordance withthe provisions of the Technical Specification The energy of thehammer shall numerically be approximately one half of the weight
of the pile plus 4,000kg Based on the Technical Specification thecalculated result of the hammer capacity is as shown in Table 3.3hereunder:

3.4 Pile Driving Sequence and Pile Code
Pile driving works will commence at Station 1+525.30
Two piling teams will be mobilised, one working in a Southerlydirection from the aforementioned station reference while thesecond team will be working in a northerly direction
The construction of the conveyance sewer is divided into segments. Each segment will be assigned a unique reference number based onthe direction of construction All segments South of theaforementioned station will be given the prefix “S” while Northernsegments will be given the prefix “N”
As an example segment S3 indicates the third segment in aSoutherly direction from Station 1+525.30
All reinforced concrete piles shall be assigned a unique numberalong the same principles as that described above All piles with
Trang 10even numbers are those located at the East side of any givensegment while odd numbers indicate piles located on the West side
of any given segment Figure 3.2 on page 8 illustrates the planned
pile code referencing while Appendix No 6 hereto gives a pictorial
representation of the driving sequence
3.5 Setting-Out
The pile centre point shall be set out using a suitable calibratedsurvey instrument The survey data will be recorded in writingusing the “RC PILE SURVEY RECORD” format contained within
Appendix No 3 hereto attached.

3.6.2 Equipment Check
Before commencing pile driving leads shall be constructed so
as to allow freedom of movement of the hammer Leads shall
be securely held in position to ensure rigid lateral support tothe pile during driving Caps shall be prepared and shall befurnished with a suitable cushion next to the pile head Thecap and cushion are shown in Figure 3.3 hereinbelow

3.6.3 Check of Setting-Out
Before driving the centreline, pile positions and stations will beset-out by the Contractor from the established temporarybenchmarks Any temporary benchmarks within the vicinity ofthe pie driving works shall be maintained in a safe andundisturbed condition
3.7 Pile Driving
3.7.1 Pitching and Driving by Diesel Hammer
The pile shall be pitched accurately at the correct location.Driving shall be continuous and the numbers of blows for eachmetre of penetration of the pile shall be constantly recorded.3.7.2 Pitching and Driving by Static Load
Trang 12Pile and pressing machines shall be set out at the correctlocation and adjust the verticality and balance of the machine.Once the machine has been suitably adjusted then thecounterweight is placed The first segment of the pile is thenpitched within the pressing machine by Mobile crane andadjusted to ensure the correct verticality and location Atypical illustration of the pile pressing machine is shown inFigure 3.4 hereinbelow.
Figure 3.4
Start pressing the first segment The pressing will temporarily
be stopped when the head of the first pile segment isapproximately 0.8m above the ground level This is done topermit the connection of the second segment to the first one
by welding Pile connection shall conform to the Contractor’sDrawing CO-P-401 Once the joint is completed pressing iscontinued until the pile reaches the specified level
Pile driving shall be continuously recorded using the “RC PILEDRIVING BY STATIC LOAD RECORD” form included within
Appendix No 3 hereto.
The pressing will be stopped when the required pile level isattained or the pressing load as specified in the ConstructionDrawing is achieved
3.7.3 Monitoring of pile verticality
The verticality of the pile will be checked by two plumbs Theplumbs shall be carefully set in locations which will not beaffected by vibration from the driving process but which also

Trang 13afford an adequate view of the pile being driven Assuming thepile being driven is the origin the plumbs will be set-up at anangle of 90º, thus ensuring that the verticality of the pile ischecked in all directions Figure 3.5 herein below illustrates theintended method.
3.8 Bearing Capacity Check
Piles shall be driven such that they exhibit a bearing capacity of notless than that shown on the Construction Drawings The Engineershall specify the penetration and the Contractor shall drive the pile
to the penetration specified
To check the developed bearing capacity of the pile, Hiley’s formulawill be utilised
Trang 14following TVCN 88: 1982)Value of C1 is usually smaller compared with C2.

For details of temporary sheet piling, any temporary protection workand trench excavation works reference is made to MethodStatement MS-008-01 which will be submitted under separate cover
by the Contractor
3.10 Pile Head Treatment
Pile head treatment works will be commenced after completion oftrench excavation works are completed for the area in question. The top of the spun pile shall be cut-off as indicated on theapproved drawings unless otherwise instructed by the Engineer. The piles will be connected to the base slab of the conveyancesewer by providing a round steel plate with five (05) number Ø14mm AII type reinforcement bars welded perpendicularly and
Trang 15spaced evenly along the perimeter of the plate The plate will beplaced inside the hollow centre of the pile and suspended 600mmbelow the pile head by tying the reinforcement bars toreinforcement bars of the base slab of the conveyance sewer Whenthe base slab of the conveyance sewer is concreted, concrete willalso fill the upper portion of the centre of the spun pile The steelplate will act as formwork to prevent the whole of centre of the spunpile from being filled with concrete Figure 3.6 hereinbelow provide
a pictorial presentation of the aforementioned detail:
