Trang 10a) Set-up drill machine auger at desired hole location andremove soil for examination
b) Drilling auger is propelled downwards hydraulically whilerotating to achieve the desired depth
c) The drilling rods are extended as necessary The rods to

Trang 123.3.2 Boring
General Sequencea) Boring works will only be commenced after the location ofthe machine and associated borehole has been confirmed
by the Engineer or his authorized representativeb) Frame and platform for the boring machine will be set-up
in the correct positionc) Initial drilling rods will be installed and adjusted prior tocommencement of operations
d) If deemed necessary a trial run of the equipment may beconducted
Boring processa) Boring will be performed using rotary drilling rigs of thetype pictured above
b) The borehole diameter is typically 110mmc) Subject to other directions as may be received from theEngineer drilling shall be performed to the depthsdescribed in Sub-Article 2.1 on page 4 hereof A standardrotary drilling method will be utilised for this purpose Ifdeemed necessary the borehole may be stabilized bycasing or bentonite as appropriate
d) Throughout the course of the drilling disturbed andundisturbed samples will be taken in accordance with thedetails contained hereinafter Standard Penetration andVane Shear Tests shall be carried out in-situ
3.3.3 Sampling and Testing
Sampling
Samples will be taken at the Site and transported to anindependent laboratory for testing of their physical properties.Sampling shall take be either Undisturbed or Disturbed asdetailed hereinbelow:
a) Undisturbed Samples (UD’s)UD’s are to be collected from the borehole(s) and all strataencountered
For soft soils, sample collection will be by means of a 73
mm diameter thin-walled sampler with a length of 1,000
mm using driven or hydrological methods In other cases
a Denson sampler, 73 mm diameter and length of 1,000
mm, will be used
Trang 13Sample intervals are 5 metres and, based on the lengths
of boreholes contained within Sub-Article 2.1 on page 4hereof, the number of samples is estimated to be in theregion of 396
Immediately upon removal from the borehole UD’s will bevisually examined and identified then described at the topand bottom ends of the tube which shall subsequently becarefully sealed with paraffin wax, labelled andtransported to the laboratory
UD’s shall be preserved and transported in accordancewith ASTM in order to secure the performance of thesubsequent laboratory test and results
The collected UD samples will be used for unconfinedcompression testing
b) Disturbed Samples (D’s)D’s are collected from all strata encountered using thesplit-barrel sampler commonly used for StandardPenetration Testing
Sample intervals are, on average, 5 metres and, based onthe lengths of boreholes contained within Sub-Article 2.1
on page 4 hereof, the number of samples is estimated to
be in the region of 396
Immediately upon removal from the borehole D’s will bevisually examined and identified then packed, marked andstored in thick plastic bags, each marked with a uniqueidentification and description The samples will thensubsequently be transported to the laboratory
The collected D samples will be used for physical propertytesting
c) Groundwater ObservationThe groundwater level in each hole will be measured andrecorded 24 hours after completion of the boring works
Testing
Testing will be conducted at an independent laboratory
a) Standard Penetration Test (SPT)The purpose of this test is to determine the stiffness ordensity of the soil layers encountered by measuring theirN-value
Testing will be conducted in accordance with ASTM D 1586
Trang 14The penetration resistance, i.e N-value, is expressed asthe number of blows of a 63.5 kg hammer freely dropping76.0cm required to force a standard split spoon sampler topenetrate the soil to a depth 45 cm The number of blowsfor each 15cm is recorded and the N-value is recorded asthe total number of blows required for the last 30.0 cmpenetration of the sampler.
b) Field Vane Shear Test (FVS)The purpose of this test is to determine the un-drainedshear resistance of the strata in question in it’s natural andre-mould conditions
Sample intervals are 5 metres, commencing from 5mbelow existing ground level
Testing will be conducted in accordance with ASTM D 2573.Equipment utilised shall be ZSZ-1 equipment made inChina Results shall be attached to each boreholeinvestigation report
c) Laboratory TestsThe purpose of the laboratory tests is to determine thephysical-mechanical characteristics and engineeringproperties of undisturbed soil samples
Laboratory tests shall be carried out in accordance withASTM standards at a laboratory approved by the Engineer.Laboratory tests are classified as follows:
• Visual and manual examination
of samples
3.4 Analysing / Testing / Classifying
After collecting the relevant samples they shall be suitably packed, identified and transported to the laboratory for testing thereat
The results of the tests will be analysed, classified and submitted in
a final report to be furnished to the Engineer
a) Visual and Manual Examination of Samples
After being opened the samples will be visually and manuallyexamined for preliminary classification in accordance with theUnified Soil Classification System (ASTM D 2487) and selection
of appropriate laboratory test(s)
b) Soil Classification Test
Trang 15• Specific Gravity ASTM D 854
• Natural Water Content ASTM D 2216
• Grain Size Analysis ASTM D 422
• Wet Density Calliper Methodc) Soil Deformation Test
These tests include:
• Unconfined compression ASTM D 2166
• Consolidation ASTM D 2435Detailed laboratory results of the soil sample tests will beincluded within the appendices for each borehole report
made to Appendix No 1 hereto:
a) Preparatory works, drilling, sampling, Site test 34 days (incl.Test at Site)
38 days (Laboratorytesting)
b) Intermediate Report (if necessary) 42 days
c) Final geotechnical investigation report 42 days
