UNIT 6: THE ENVIRONMENT

Lesson 1: GETTING STARTED - LISTEN AND READ

I OBJECTIVES:

1 Educational aims: The environment is being destroyed seriously so we should do something to protect and preserve it

2.Teaching aims : By the end of the lesson, Ss will know something about the environmental problems and read about the work of a group of conservationists

II PREPARATIONS: Book, cassette tape

III PROCEDURES:

1 Warm - up (8’)

- Give Ss some pictures:

- Have Ss match the words with pictures

- Introduce new words:

+ spraying pesticides:

+ dump:

+ forestation:

+ dynamite fishing:

+ pollution (n) ; pollute (v)

- Look at the pictures and match with the words

a air pollution

b spraying pesticides

c garbage dump

d water pollution

e forestation

f dynamite fishing

- Write down

2 Presentation (10’)

- Introduce some new words

+ (to) spoil (v)= destroy

+ disappointed (adj):

+ conservationist (n):

- Ask Ss to practice the new words

- Check vocabulary

- Set the scene: Mr Brown is talking to some volunteer

conservationist:

+ What tasks does Mr Brown share to the volunteer

conservationists?

+ Where are they?

+ How many groups are there?

- Play the tape for Ss 3 times

- Guess the meaning of new words

- Practice the new words

- Individual work

- Guess the answer

- Listen to the tape

3 Practice (15’)

- Call Ss to get read aloud the text - Read the text aloud

- Have Ss answer the questions above

+ - Walk along the shore

- Check the sand

- Check among the rocks

- Collect the paper.

+ There are three groups

- Have Ss read the text again and match column A

with column B
