Lesson 6: LANGUAGE FOCUS

I OBJECTIVES:

Teaching aims : By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to know how use the present perfect with ALREADY and YET, distinguish the difference in using the past simple and the present perfect tense, review the passive forms of the present perfect, simple present, simple past, and simple future, modal auxiliaries

II PREPARATIONS: book

III PROCEDURES:

1 Warm - up (5’)

- Ask Ss play game “Pelmanism”

Give 10 cards with numbers (from 1 to 10) On one

side and the verbs on the other.

- Play game

2 Exercises (35’) a/ Exercise 1: Present prefect tense

- Have Ss review form of present perfect tense

For + a period of time

Since + a point of time

- Ask Ss to look at the dialouge on page 19

- Ask Ss to practice the dialogue

- Have Ss to answer 2 questions:

+ How long has Nga known her friend?

+ Has Nga seen her recently?

- Ask Ss to make 3 similar dialogues

- Call some pairs to get information

b/ Exercise 2: Present perfect tense with Already, Yet

- Set the sence: You and your friend are visiting HCM

City,

- Ask Ss look at the notes

- Ask Ss talk about things they done, they haven’t done

- Review

- Look at the dialogue

- Work in pairs

- Answer the questions

+ She has known her friend for six years

+ No, she has not seen her friend since 2003

- Make 3 similar dialogues

- Correct

- Listen to the teacher

- Look at the dialogue

- Listen and write into notebook

- Ask Ss to look at the dialouge:

 Give Ss the use and the position of already and yet in the

sentence

+ ALREADY: is used in affirmative sentences

Position: mid sentence

+ YET: is used in the negative sentences and questions

Position: end of the sentence

- Ask Ss to practice the dialogue in pairs

- Call some pairs to correct the mistakes

c/ Exercise 3: Present perfect and past simple tense

- Set the sence: Tom and Mary are talking to each other

about places they have been to

- Ask Ss to look at the dialogue

+ We use the past simple simple to talk about definite

time

Ex: I went to France last year

+ We use the present perfect to talk about indefinite past

time

Ex: Have you ever been to Italy?

- Ask Ss to practice asking and answering about each of

the items in the box

d/ Exercise 4, 5: Passive forms

- Ask Ss some questions

+ They sells jeans all over the world

 They are sold all over the world

+ Can you do this exercise?

 Yes, I can do this exercise

 This exercise can be done by me

- Have Ss give the passive voice form:

1 Simple present is/are/am+p.p

2 Simple past was/were+p.p

3 Present per fect have/has+been+p.p

4 Modal verbs modal verbs+be+p.p

- Have Ss do exercise 4-5/page 21

- Get feedback

3 Consolidation: (3’)

- Ask Ss to review structures of tenses and passive forms

- Work in pairs to practice

- Check

- Listen to the teacher

- Look at the dialogue

- Ask and answer

- Change into passive voice

- Take note

- Ask Ss to review grammartical structure from Unit 1 – 2
