Lesson : Listening

I Objectives.

1 Knowledge.

By the end of this lesson, Ss will:

+ Get words and phrases related to the topic electronic devices that can help us learn

+ Master stress in three-syllable adjective and verbs and practice those

+ Talk about how to use electronic devices to study English online

2 Skills

+ Develop the listening skills for specific details

+ Listen to instructions on how to access and use online English language materials for specific information

3 Attitudes

+ Building Ss’ awareness of being willing to learn and activate new ways to learn + They’ll build up their habit of checking their pronunciation by dictionaries

I Pre-reading

( 18 mins)

Activity 1: Lead in (3 mins)

a Aims: To lead Ss into the new lesson.

b Contents: Questions about using electronic devices to study English.

c Steps:

- T shows two pictures about Ss are using

applications to learning English

- T asks Ss to look at the pictures and and answer some questions:

1 What are the students doing?

2 What do you think you are going to read about?

- T leads Ss in the new lesson

1 Ss are using smartphones/phones and tablets to study English in the classroom

Activity 2: Vocabulary (10 mins)

a Aims: To teach words and phrases related to

electronic devices and using the Internet to learn English

b Contents: Elicit words and phrases in the text.

c Steps:

- T provides some vocabulary for Ss.

a Aims: Practise reading skill – skimming.

b Contents: Choose the best title

c Software programmes

c Steps:

- T asks Ss to read three titles in the textbook.

- T asks Ss how to do this task

+ understand three titles

+ skim the passage

+ find the main aim of the passage

+ look at the introduction and concluding sentences to decide the best title

- T asks Ss to do this task in 3 mins

- T calls Ss to stand up and answer the question

- T checks the answer with the whole class and encourages Ss to justify their choices by referring to the relevant information in the reading text

- T corrects the answers and asks Ss to copy down

Activity 2: Play game ( 8 mins)

a Aims: Practise reading skill – scanning through

playing game: Wheel of fortune

b Contents: There are 7 wheels of fortune

+ 2 fortune wheels + 5 questions – Ss have to select the best answer

(Questions:

1 How convenient are digital lessons?

A: We can download them on mobile devices and

study anywhere

B: We can see words on the screen and hear them spoken

C: We can learning English faster

2 How can software help improve your pronunciation?

A: You can use voice recognition technology B: You can work as a native speaker and select accents quickly

C: We can choose to practice with native English

speakers of different accents and general

3 What can you do with speaking electronic dictionaries?

A: They can use them to record real-life English

- T divides Ss into three groups.

- T introduces the rules of this game to the Ss.

+ Ss will choose the number of the questions and answer the question – if any

+ T spins the wheel of fortune and the number of the wheel is the mark of this group – if they have the correct answer

+ T asks Ss to explain their answer, if they answer incorrectly, they will be deducted half the score

- T and Ss play game together

d Outcomes: Ss can answer correctly and explain

the reason why they choose this answer

Activity : Group discussion ( 10 mins)

a Aims:

+ Help Ss remember and apply the vocabulary that

they have learned to have a presentation about using pesonal electronic devices to learn English

+ Improve speaking skill

b Contents: Discuss about this question: How can

shool students use personal electronic devices to learn English?

c Steps:

- T divides Ss into group of three tables

- T gives posters for each group.

- T asks Ss to draw a mindmap about this question

- T asks Ss to prepare a presentation through their poster

- T asks Ss to discuss with each other in 3 mins

- T calls Ss to stand up and present

- T gives comments

d Outcomes:

+ Ss can use the vocabulary and grammar that related to this topic correctly

+ Ss can speak influently and correctly
