UNIT 8 LETTER U

Lesson 1

I Objectives:

1 Knowledge: : - By the end of the lesson, students can be able to:

- Recognize and pronounce the letter Uu and its sound correctly

- Understand, recognize and say the three Uu words

- Write the letter Uu

Pronunciation: U,u /ju:/

* Vocabulary: Up, umbrella, ugly

2 Skills:

- Develop Ss reading, writing and listening skills

3 Attitude: Educate Sts to love their lesson

Work hard

III TEACHING AIDS:

1 Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette.

2 Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.

II TEACHING METHODS:

- Work in pairs , individual, in groups …

IV PROCEDURE:

1 Class organization:

- Greeting: Good morning/ Good afternoon How are you?

- Checking for the students’ attendence:

………

2 Warm up :7’

- Greet students

* Activity: You’re Out

- Hang some phonics cards from the previous unit in the four corners of the room (1 card/ corner)

- Choose a student to stand in the middle of the classroom with his/ her eyes closed and count to ten while the other students run to the four corners

- When the student in the middle counts to ten, he/ she shouts “STOP” and call a name

of a phonics card in the four cards hung on the four corners

- The students in that corner are ‘out’ and must sit down

- Play three round with three different students in the middle The one can made the most students ‘out’ is the winner

3 New lesson

* Activity 1: 10’ – apply information technology

- Show the students the up phonic card Point to it and

say: /u/ The students repeat

- Then say /u/- up The students repeat.

- Point up to the ceiling and say: /u/- up Encourage the

students to do the same

- Say the letter, the students perform the action and the

word

- Follow the same procedure: /u/- umbrella (mime

holding an umbrella), /u/- ugly (make an ugly face)

- Write the letter Uu on the board next to the phonics

cards Point to it and say: “This is the letter /ju:/ The

letter /ju:/ makes the /u/ sound The students repeat

* Activity: Listen, point and repeat Colour

* Activity 2: 5’

- Teacher holds up a phonics card, partly hidden by a

sheet of paper

- Slowly reveal the phonics cards The students try to

guest what the phonics card is

* Pupil’s book open (4')

- Point to and elicit the sound of the letter and the

words /u/- up, /u/- umbrella, /u/- ugly

- Play the CD The students listen, point and repeat

- The students color the letters Uu (explain that they can

use any colors they like)

- Teacher goes around the class and elicits the letter and

the word from individual students

* Activity: What is it?

Activity 3 (5’)

- Show the letter Uu again, have students write the Uu in

air with their fingers

Greet students

Have students sing the chant in lesson 1 Unit 7 (Track 42), keep the rhythm by

clapping their hands or snapping their fingers

3 New lesson

* Activity 1: (10 mins)

- Point to the monster and say: It is up in an umbrella.

The students repeat

- Point to the monster again and say: It is ugly The

student repeat

- Play the CD The students listen and point

- Ask the students to color the umbrella, using any color

they like

- Go around the classroom asking students to name the

* Activity 2: (10 mins)

- Put up the up, umbrella, ugly phonics cards on the

board

- Point to the phonics cards and say: /u/- up, /u/-

umbrella, /u/- ugly The students repeat.

- Play the CD The students listen, follow in their books

and chant

- Ask the students to do the actions of the words when

they chant

- Repeat the chant without the CD Keep the rhythm by

clapping hands

- Divide the class into 3 groups (up, umbrella, ugly) -

Each group says the appropriate chant while the rest

of the class claps

- Ask each group to mime the corresponding action or

show the corresponding phonics cards while they

chant

Act 3 Chant and show! Activity: Chant in group

* Activity 3: (5 mins)

- Chant with out book
