Lesson 3

I Objectives:

1 Knowledge: : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

 Read and say the three Yywordscorrectly

 Recognize and say an extra Yy word correctly

Vocabulary: Yo-yo, yellow, yacht, yogurt

2 Skills:

- Develop Ss reading, writing, speaking and listening skills

3 Attitude: Educate Sts to love their lesson

Work hard

III TEACHING AIDS:

1 Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette.

2 Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.

II TEACHING METHODS:

- Work in pairs , individual, in groups …

IV PROCEDURE:

1 Class organization:

- Greeting: Good morning/ Good afternoon How are you?

- Checking for the students’ attendence:

2 Warm up :5’

Activity: Chinese Whispers Game

Divide the class into2 teams with the same numbers of students in each team

The first student of each team runs to the teacher (at the same time); teacher whispers a word/words/ a simple sentence to them

The first student whispers the word/words to the student sitting next to or behind him/her and so on

The last students say the word/words/sentence aloud

The team has the correct answer is the winner

3 New lesson

* Activity 1: 13’ – apply information technology

Point to the lettersand elicit their names and sounds

Explain the activity

Ask the students to find and colour the Yy letters

Go around the classroom providing any necessary

help

Ask the student to name the item

Allow them tocolour the rest letters with other colours

Activity 2 (15’)

 Show the students the yogurt phonics card Point to

it and say: /j/ - yogurt Ask them to repeat.

Mime eating yogurt and say: /j/ - yogurt Encourage

the students to do the same

Say the letter The students perform the action and say

the letter and the word (if they can)

Play the CD The students listen, point to and repeat

the word

Point to the picture and have students name them

Allow the students some time to colour in the pictures

of words start with the /j/ sound.

Go around the classroom providing any necessary

help

Activity: Craftwork

Ask the students to take out their notebooks

Ask them to choose one word then draw the letter

Yand the picture of the item in their notebooks

Tell them to decorate the letter and the picture

The first three students who finish will present their

letters and pictures to the class

7 Listen, point and repeat Colour the pictures of the words that start with the y sound Say the y words.

Vocabulary: Revision Yo-yo, yellow, yacht, yogurt

- Develop Ss reading, writing and listening skills

Have the students sing and act to the chant/ show the corresponding picture cards

Write on the board the capital letter Y (write slowly

to demonstrate its formation)

Point to it and elicit the sound /j/

Show the formation in the air (taking care when

facing to the students that the letter is formed the

correct way for them)

Repeat with the small letter y

The students trace the letters in their activity books

Go around and provide any necessary help Ask the

students to say the sound of the letter

Explain the activity

First, the students trace the letters in the boxes

Then draw lines from the letters to the corresponding

pictures

Check around the classroom

Answer keys: 1 Vv- vase 2 Ww- window 3 Xx- ox

* Activity 3: (5 mins)

Put up the phonics cards on the board and ask the

students to memorize the order in which the items

appear

Ask the students to close their eyes and remove the

cards

Ask individual students to name the items in the

correct order

Change the order of the phonics cards and repeat the

activity

Activity: Memory Game

* Activity 4: (5 mins)

 Explain the activity

Point to the pictures and elicit their names

Ask the students to look at the pictures, say the word

and circle the letter their names begin with

Go around and provide any necessary help

Say the words Circle the correct letter

Activity 5: (5 mins)

Explain the activity

Point to the letters and say the sounds

Point to the pictures and elicit their names

 Ask the students to colour the shape that corresponds

to the initial letter of each item any colour they like

Go around the classroom and provide any necessary

help

Say the sounds Colour the right shapes

4 Consolidation: (3’)

Review the new words, read and write the Uu words
