STORY TIME + REVIEW 3

I Objective:

1 Language focus:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to consolidate the sound of the

letter Vv, Ww, Xx ,Yy and Zz and the coresponding words

2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing

3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to consolidate the sound of the letter Vv, Ww, Xx ,Yy and Zz and the

coresponding words

II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant, TV

III Method:

- Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work, group work

- Some techniques can be used: music chairs, correct teacher, act out…

IV.Procedures:

1 Organization:

- Greeting and check student attendence.

2B Thursday, June 11th 2020

2 Warm up (5’)

Activity: Guess

- Choose some phonics cards from Units 9 – 13

- T divides the class into 2 groups, A and B

- T pass one card in each group (from the first row to the last row)

- Say: Stop! The 2 students holding the cards must say the name of the item

- Keep passing the first card and pass the second card to each group

- Say: Stop! The 4 students holding the cards must say the name of the item

3 New lesson (30')

STORY TIME

Activity 1 Listen Read along (5’)

- (book closed) Tell the Ss that it’s story time

- Ask them if they like reading stories and what

their favourite storybook character is

- Prepare phonics cards of these word: watch, yo

-yo, box, van, zebra.

- Ask the students to read out the words

- Invite students to guess what they think the

story is about

- Ask the students to look at the book.

- Ask them questions about what they can see in

the pictures

E.g: Teacher: (pointing to the watch in picture 1)

Look! What’s this?

Class: (It’s a) watch!

Teacher: (pointing to the watch in picture 1 I

like my…

Class: watch! etc

- Play the CD and ask the students to listen and

follow the story in their books, pointing to the

pictures of the key words

- Play the CD again pausing for the Ss to repeat

- Ask individual students to read the story aloud

Activity 2 What’s in the box? Draw and colour

(5’)

- Point and elicit the items

- Ask the students to choose the correct item and

draw it in the box

- Explain to them that they can use any colour

they like to colour the item.`

REVIEW 3

Activity 1: What is the beginning sound?

Colour Say the letter and the sound (5’)

- T explains the activity

- The Ss say the names of the items and their

beginning sounds

- Ask them to colour the corresponding letter

- Go around the class to provide any necessary

help

- Choose Ss to say the letters and the sounds

aloud

Activity 2: Look and tick () (5’)

- T explains the activity

- Ask the students to tick the letters that

correspond to the pictures

- Go around the classroom to provide any

necessary help, ask individual Ss to say out the

sounds

- Ask the class to say out the name of each item

and the correct letter of each one

- T explain the activity

- Ask Ss to say the words for each picture

Activity 4: Listen and circle (Track 87) (5')

- T elicit the names of the items

- T play the CD

- The students listen and circle the correct picture

- Listen, pause, ask Ss to repeat the item they

hear

Activity: Say the sound, say the word

- Divide the class into two team, team A and team B, and make two lines

- Prepare letter cards from Nn to Zz

- Show a letter card and the two students from two teams have to say out the word

- The student who says out the word faster wins a point for his/ her team

- Teacher may ask the student to say out the sound of the word

- The team with more points wins the game

3 New lesson (30’)

Activity 1: Look and put a tick (ü) or a cross

(O) (7’)

- T explains the activity

- T elicit the letter and the sound for each

- Ask the students to look at each letter and

picture and put a tick or a cross

- T goes around the classroom to provide any

necessary help

- Choose individual students to say the letters,

the sounds and the words aloud

Activity: Look for the right cards (3’)

- T prepare all the phonics cards in Exercise

1

- Put up the cards around the room/ put them

on the desks in random order (face them

down)

- Write a letter on the board and ask two

students to look around the classroom and

find the corresponding card(s)

- Repeat the activity

Activity 2: Match and write (7’)

- T explain the activity

- T elicits the letters and the sounds for each

- Ask the students to look at each letter and

draw lines to corresponding pictures

- Ask them to write the upper and lower case

letters

- Go around the classroom to provide any

necessary help, ask individual students to say

out the sounds or the items

Activity: Stand and Sit (3’)

- Tell the students to listen for words that

begin with e.g the /j/ sound.

- Ask the students to stand up when they hear

words beginning with /j/ sound and sit when

they hear words begin with other sound

- Say slowly at the beginning and faster to

make it more fun

Activity 3: Listen and write the letters Then

circle the right pictures (Track 88) (10’)

- T explains the activity

- T plays the CD The students listen to the

sounds and write the letters they hear

- Ss students listen to the sounds and write the

letters they hear

- T asks the students to circle the right picture

that corresponds to the letter

- Ss circle the right picture that corresponds

to the letter

- T goes around the classroom to provide any

necessary help
