EXTRA CHECK - PART 1

I Objective:

1 Language focus:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to consolidate the sound of the

letter Vv, Ww, Xx ,Yy and Zz and the coresponding words

- Learn and practise reading skills and sing a song

Vocabulary: review

2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing

3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to consolidate the sound of the letter Vv, Ww, Xx ,Yy and Zz and the

coresponding words

II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant

III Method:

- Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work,group work

- Some techniques can be used: music chairs, correct teacher, act out…

IV.Procedures:

1 Organization:

2C Tuesday, May 15th 2018

2 Warm up (5’)

Activity: Say the sound, say the word

- Divide the class into two team, team A and team B, and make two lines

- Prepare letter cards from Nn to Zz

- Show a letter card and the two students from two teams have to say out the word

- The student who says out the word faster wins a point for his/ her team

- Teacher may ask the student to say out the sound of the word

- The team with more points wins the game

3 New lesson

Activity 1: Look and put a tick (ü) or a cross

(O) (10’)

- T explains the activity

- T elicit the letter and the sound for each

- Ask the students to look at each letter and

picture and put a tick or a cross

- T goes around the classroom to provide any

necessary help

- Choose individual students to say the letters,

the sounds and the words aloud

Activity: Look for the right cards (7’)

- T prepare all the phonics cards in Exercise 1

- Put up the cards around the room/ put them on

the desks in random order (face them down)

- Write a letter on the board and ask two students

to look around the classroom and find the

corresponding card(s)

- Repeat the activity

Activity 2: Match and write (8’)

- T explain the activity

- T elicits the letters and the sounds for each

- Ask the students to look at each letter and draw

lines to corresponding pictures

- Ask them to write the upper and lower case

letters

- Go around the classroom to provide any

necessary help, ask individual students to say out

the sounds or the items

- Ask the class to say out the name of each item

and the correct letter of each one

Activity: Stand and Sit (5’)

- Tell the students to listen for words that begin

with e.g the /j/ sound.

- Ask the students to stand up when they hear

words beginning with /j/ sound and sit when they

hear words begin with other sound

- Say slowly at the beginning and faster to make

it more fun

and sit when they hear words begin with other sound

- Say slowly at the beginning and faster to make it more fun

- The team with more points wins
