Paper including the lyrics of the chant

Warm-up (5mins)

Greet students

Review the previous lesson by playing the

“Touching game”

- Put up the fox, fish, frog, and fork cards on the

board

- Line up students into 2 teams

- Call a student from each team to stand 1m from the board

- Read 1 of the 3 words out loud (e.g a fox), the students must run to tap the card of that word

- The student who taps the correct card first will get 1 point for his/her team

- Call 4-6 students per team to the board if possible

- Give feedback

Presentation & Practice

1 Listen, point and repeat Colour (Track 41):

Introduction of letter G, its sound and how to pronounce the words beginning with Gg

(7mins)

Use a card with letter Gg (or write on the board the letter Gg) to introduce to the students the new

lesson

Instruct students how to pronounce the letter name and the letter sound by saying: “This is the letter

Gg /di/ The letter G says //.”

Repeat several times and check students’

pronunciation (letter Gg /di/and its sound //)

Use the phonics cards with glass, goat, and

garden, read the words out loud and ask students

to repeat

Use gestures (hand actions) to help students to understand the meanings of the three words

Check students’ understanding: Teacher says the words, all students do actions and vice versa

Call some students to say the words out loud and correct their mistakes (if any)

Activity: Memory Game (3mins)

Put the phonics cards of glass, goat, garden, Gg on

the board

Ask students to memorize the order of these cards

Ask students to close their eyes, remove one

phonics card randomly and ask individual students

to name it

Continue changing the other cards

Remember to correct Students’ pronunciation throughout the lesson

2 Listen and point Colour (Track 42) (5mins)

 Have students look at the books and listen to the

words: look at, the glass, the goat, my garden

Use gestures (hand actions) to help Students to understand the meanings of commands

Ask students repeat by using the phonics cards of

glass, goat, garden combining with gestures

Then, ask students to colour the glass and the goat, using any colour they like

Go around the classroom, asking students to name the items they are coloring

Activity: Pass the phonics card Game (5mins)

Using the phonics cards of Gg, glass, goat, garden

Line up the students into 2 teams

Give the first students of each team a phonics card and say “Go”

The students say the corresponding words and pass the phonics card over their head to the students behind them

Next, those students repeat the word and pass the phonics card between their legs to the students behind them

Continue to pass the phonics card over their heads and between their legs to the last students

Which team hands their phonics card to Teacher and says the word correctly will get one point

Which team has the most point will be the winner

Continue the game as many times as necessary

3 Chant and show! (Track 04) (5mins)

Put up the lyrics of the chant on the board

Without music, use the phonics cards and step

students to sing the chant with glass Do the same with goat and garden.

With music, the whole class sings the whole chant

Do the chant again using gestures for each word

Give feedback

Production (5mins)

Activity 1: Writing in the air

Show the letter Gg again, have students write the

Gg in air with their fingers.

Activity 2: Write down the words into Students’ notebook

Ask students write down the words: glass, goat, garden into their notebook

Warm-up (4mins)

Greet students

Divide students in 3 groups of glass, goatandgarden

Play the chant in Lesson 1

Each group mimes the corresponding actions

Presentation & Practice Lead-in Activity: Freeze (5mins)

Divide the students into small groups

Ask students to stand at their desks

Give a series of instruction, e.g glass, goat, garden Students mime the actions

When the teacher says Freeze!, the students must

stop what they are doing and stand still

The students who are slowest to stop are out and have to sit down

Continue the game until there is a group of winner

4 Listen Read Along (Track 44) (8mins)

Ask the students to point to the picture of the word that the teacher says

Play the CD Have the students listen to the story once

Play the CD again The students listen and point to the pictures of the key words when they hear them

in the story

Read the story The students follow their books

Teacher reads the printed words then let the

students point to the pictures and say the words

Ask students work in pairs One reads the printed words while the other points to the pictures and says the words

Activity: Say the Sight Words (3mins)

 Point to and say the sight words: look, at, the, with,

in, my

Have students repeat

Call on some students read them aloud and correct pronunciation (if any)

Activity: Bingo Game (5mins)

Deliver individual students a sheet of paper

including a grid with 3 by 3 squares

Ask students to write a different word ‘dog, drum, dragon, egg, elf, elephant, glass, goat, garden’

Call out words in any order (keep a record of the words as you say them, so that you don’t say the same word twice)

The students cross off the words in their grids as they hear them

The first student to complete a line of three shouts

Bingo!

5 Song (Track 45) (5mins)

Put the song lyrics up the board

Instruct students to read the drill “Look at my garden, look at the goat!”

Follow the same procedure and present the rest of the song

Play the CD The students listen, sing along and point to the pictures on their book

Play the CD again The students sing and do corresponding actions

Activity: Hot Cards Game (5mins)

Have students stand at their desks

Hand out the phonics cards

Play the song While the song is playing, the students pass the phonics cards to the next student

When the song stops, the student holding the phonics cards must name them

Remember to correct students’ pronunciation

Ask the students to put their thumbs up if the

picture starts with g sound and put their thumbs down if the picture does not start with g sound.

7.1 Listen, point and repeat (5mins)

 Show the students the gorilla phonics card Point

to it and say: /g/ - gorilla Ask them to repeat.

Perform the actions like a gorilla and say /g/, gorilla

Encourage the students to do the same

Say the letter and ask students do the action

Play the CD

Ask students listen, point to and repeat the word

7.2 Colour the pictures of the words that start with the g sound Say the g word (7mins)

Point to pictures and have students name them

Name some colours and ask the students to repeat

Ask the students colour the pictures which have

Gg in them

Give the students 4 minutes to colour in the ‘glass’ and ‘goat’ that have Gg in them Go around the

classroom providing any necessary help

Activity: Craftwork (10mins)

Ask the students to take out their notebooks

Ask them to choose one word the draw the letter and the picture in their notebooks

Tell them to colour the letter and the picture

The three first students who finish will show their picture to the class

OR

Activity: Whispers (10mins)

Line up the students into 2 team of 6

Show the phonics cards to the first student in each group

This student whispers the word to another behind him/her

The student continues whispering the word until the final student

The team which will win has the final student says

Copy the 2 boxes from the book to the board and put the phonics card of elbow up between them

Tell the students that you are going to write the letter Ee, Ff and Gg into the box

Demonstrate the writing

Draw linesto the correct pictures that correspond to each letter

 Ask students to name the pictures

4 What is it? Colour the Gg letters and say (page 17 – Activity book) (6mins)

Explain the activity

Ask students to look at the picture, colour the letters, say the letter and the sound

Go around and provide any necessary help

Consolidation (3mins)

Draw an imaginary letter G in the air

Signal the students to look at teacher’s mouth

Hold up a phonics card, partly hidden by a sheet of paper

Slowly reveal the card The students try to guess what the phonics card is

Revision& Practice Activity 1: Hangman (6mins)

Divide the class into two teams, A and B

Choose a word and write the appropriate number

of spaces on the board

Ask two teams to take turn guessing a letter If a student guesses correctly, write that letter in the space and give the student another turn If a student guesses incorrectly, draw one line of the hangman picture and have a student from the other team guess a letter

The team that correctly guesses the word wins a point

Activity 2: Unscramble the words (6mins)

Put up some phonics cards on the board

Write the letters of the words around them in random order

Ask individual students to come to the board and write the words Or ask the class to take out their notebooks and write down the correct words

The first student who finishes can choose other
